240 WBY QL request anyone?

I'd like to see a QL prediction on the 240 WBY with a 28" tube shooting the 108g Hornady ELDMs at max pressure with a few of the top powders if anyone has the time. Thinking of rebarreling my 240 with an 8 twist Bartlein at 28" for a LR coyote/antelope/deer rifle...The factory 24" tube and 10" twist leaves a lot on the table in my opinion and would do much better at longer range with 4" more barrel and an 8 twist shooting a high BC bullet. Right now I'm limited to the 87g VMAX at 3500fps with a BC of .400 which is ok out to 600 yards, but I want it to be a 1K rifle.

Jorey, try the 105 grain Hornady HPBT. It’s stabilized well in a few 1-10 twist 243 Winchester’s and it’s a wrecking ball. .525 BC on it as well. I think you might be surprised by how much you like it.

I am shooting my 240 Bee this weekend with 108 ELDm's. I will post results. Mine is a MK V Back country with 24" 1:7.5 factory (Criterion) barrel.

Thanks Scotty and Fotis. I'm going to pick up a box of the 105g HPBT this evening and start a ladder with RL26 at 53-56g. I wont be shooting them for a bit though, so looking forward to your results Fotis.

This weekend my friend.
I can tell you one thing. It did a little over an inch 2 weeks ago with the Barnes LRX at 3400 fps but I sat them "close" to the lands. I should have known better since they like a huge jump usually from a Bee.
My COAL was 3.385" I Usually seat them to 3.250 or so. The MK V does have a longer magazine than the Vanguard.

I am looking forward to seeing what they do for you Jorey. They have been really easy to get shooting and man they work great as an all around bullet, plus they have a decent BC on them and like I said, you might squeak by with the 10 twist.

Fotis, I am betting that new 240 will be a wicked little devil once you get it going.

Hornady told me they recommend a 9 twist for that 105g HPBT, but they've had reports of them shooting great from 10" twists, so I picked up a box last night. Going to load a few at 54 or 55g with RL26 just to see if they make round holes. If so, I'll start a ladder from 53-56g. Hornady also recomended to seat them at 3.220" and go in or out from there, but I'll probably just start them .005" to .010" off like I do everything. Plenty of mag space in the vanguard to reach the lands.

Hey thanks Gun Nut! I appreciate that. Looks like I was right in there with my RL26 prediction for the 105s. Fingers crossed my 10" will stabilize them!!

My 10 twist 24" Vanguard stabilizes the 105 AMax fine. Have shot Steel to 800 with it.

I was running 52.5 grs of R22 and getting 3150 fps. Thought what the heck and tried R26. 53.5 grs gets me 3250 fps and haven't tried to go any higher. Shoots sub MOA and figured 3250 is pretty good for a 24" barrel. I m at 3.335 OAL; .020 off the lands.

Share your results. That 8 twist of Fotis s s/b the Cats Meow.

Your welcome. Spot on Rem ‘06.
Great info frankm. Thanks for sharing. Waiting for cooler weather in Iowa to try out some loads in my 240s.
Looking forward to Fotis’s results too. Thinking he has a really neat rifle. The 7 1/2 twist is very interesting!!

Found the lands with my rifle and the 105g HPBT is around 3.345" so I loaded up 3 rounds at 55g RL26 at 3.340" I'll shoot them at 300 yards in the next day or 2 and see if they're stabilizing. I'll also cronograph them to see what the QL prediction and velocity/pressure is like. My rifle only has a 24" tube so I'm expecting around the 3300fps mark.

Be careful with that rl 26. I found it very inconsistent as far as lot to lot variations.

I blew a primer at 55gr with the 100 gr PT! Had to go down 3 gr after that!

Remington, +1 to Fotis; be careful. I think 55 might be over the top.

Might load 1 or 2 at 53 ish and try first! Don't forget your shooting glasses and let us know your results.
