240 WBY QL request anyone?

+1 frank and Fotis...I have a lot of respect for Reloder 26 and its inconsistencies. I like to start low and work up.

So I loaded 4 up at 54g...Shot them at 300 yards this morning just to see if they'd stabilize...1st CB shot was a couple inches left so I made a couple click adjustments, went and checked the target, a perfect round hole! Velocity was 3316fps and no pressure signs, good deal! So I came back to the bench and fired a 3 shot group. Was right at 3" Not to bad for a load just thrown together. I think it has promise, so I'll be doing a ladder with RL26 from 53-56g at .010" off the lands to start with. Next 3 shots were 3316/3308/3292 with no pressure signs.

I d say that velocity / charge mirroring my results where 53.5 got me 3250 fps.

As others have mentioned R26 can seem fine and then sneak right up on you. I d move slowly. Keep us posted! ( your test load would be pretty close to 3400 fps with a couple inch longer barrel; that's screaming)

No, I only have a 24" barrel on my rifle. I just asked for the QL on a 28" tube that I'd have it rebarreled too! But I still have a little room to go up anyway, pretty sure I'll get up to at least 55g maybe 55.5g before she tops out, probably be close to 3400fps anyway. Not sure if the groups will get better or worse, but we will find out soon enough anyway! I'll do the ladder in .3g increments while cronographing, so I'll be able to find the max for my rifle based on velocity/pressure signs. MOA isnt bad, but not what I'm after for a coyote rifle, preferably the smaller the better haha. I am going for accuracy these days 1st and speed 2nd. I also have H4831, H1000, Retumbo, RL17, RL22, and IMR7828 for other powders to try if need be.

Hopefully we can get her down to 1-2" at 300 yards. Thanks for the recommendation on them, I totally overlooked that bullet and the possibility to shoot in a 10 twist. Will definitely take the 240 to 1K easy!!

Surprising the amount of guys here with 240 Bee's. Took a look at Hornady's offerings alone for the 6 mm and it is impressive. Good luck all of you with your loads!

Gonna have to throw one into some jugs and see what they look like out of curiosity sake! Tough to beat the hot rod 6mms with heavies. That little 105g still carry a 1000# energy at 800 yards and traveling over 2000fps. Impressive for a little 105g bullet really.

It’s not a bad looking combo at all. I need to try some with RL26 in my little 243. I haven’t tried that combo yet.

Got the ladder loaded up 53-56g RL26 Hopefully get to the range in the morning and see what happens at 300 yards.

They look fast just sitting there buddy!

Looking forward to seeing what happens on paper.

Shot mine this weekend 3350 easy with the 108. About 1" or so but double grouped. Bedding as we speak

I shot jugs with the 105gr hpbt at 3000fps muzzle velocity out of my .243. At 100yds, it shredded 2 jugs and punctured the 3rd. I shot an antelope at 100-150yds with it a few weeks later and it was doa. I found the jacket, no core. My take is that it's a good bullet for long shots because it's most likely going to expand at lower velocities. Up close, you better stay off the shoulder but you can still expect a very dead critter with a good shot. I'd use them again.

Fotis, was it MagPro or R26 that got you the 3350?

Assuming 52 grains that you mentioned as your test charge. Thanks

Have you guys tried H1000? Looks like it won't quite get you to 3400fps but my 243 and my 7mm Rem Mag both love it.

I've not tried H1000 yet, but if this RL26 doesnt work out I'm going to either try H1000 or Retumbo, maybe H4831. I've got 7828, RL22, and RL17 as well. H1000 is the only powder I use in my 7-300 Win Mag, I have around 10# of it stashed away.
