Well I'm trying something new in my savage. I can't seem to get the 105 to shoot very good so I'm going to try some 95 Berger VLDs for my long range shooting. Until they get here I'm working with a box of 95 NBTs. Any body got any good starting points?

Right now I have three shells of 7828 ssc loaded in .5 gr increments from 44 to 46. Next up will be IMR 4350. Hoping to get similar results as with the 55 NBT. I have three different loads that shoot the 55 BT under half inch all day long with this gun. Would love to get a 95 BT load that would do the same!

Back in my 243 Win days, 39.5 grs IMR4895 for the 70 gr loads and 42.0 grs IMR4530 for the 95 gr and 100 gr loads. Accuracy out of a M70 XTR was well under MOA.

My load was always 47 gr 7828 for about 3150 fps. Great load.

In order of accuracy, my A-bolt shot the 95 Ballistic Tip best with RL-22, IMR4350, IMR4831. In my experience, I found my 10 twist rifle shot the 85 grain Sierra BTHP Gameking and 85 Barnes TSX even better, so that's what I settled on.

That 95 gr Ballistic Tip has my respect as both an accurate and effective bullet! My son and I use it in his 6mm Remington and it's cleanly taken mule deer with excellent performance out to 300 yards.

Best of luck with those loads - it's a good bullet!

Well thanks guys. I have most of those powders. So I should be able to get it shooting. Hoping for 3100-3200 ish but I'll take whatever shoots great.

Jmad I am very interested in your findings. My 95gr VLD's just came in yesterday. I will be loading some this weekend hopefully. Walt gave me the following info.
41.0-45.5 IMR7828ssc
41.0-45.5 RL 22
41.5-46.1 H4831sc
Those are the 3 I am going to try. Let me know if you want anymore data.

isn't 7828 a lil slow for a 243? unless ya have a long barrel?
I always had best results with IMR 4350 in the 243 and IMR 4831 in the 6mm.

I'm running 44.0 grains IMR 7828 in my daughters youth model 700. The 95 grain lubalox coated bt is moving at 2800fps and it's really accurate. I have it loaded down somewhat for her, but it really shoots for a 20" barrel. She has slapped down 3 deer in the last couple of years and they were all drt. IMR 7828 works great with the 243 win.

It is listed as the second fastest powder for the 95 BT in the Nosler book (#6). And it is up there a near the top with QL as well. I am shooting a 26" barrel.

I have a pound of 7828ssc and nothing else to use it in so I figured I'd try it before I tried RL22 or IMR 4350.

JMAD, here is a 44.5gr IMR7828 SSC, WW Cases, CCI BR2 primer, and 95gr Nosler BT group.

It was only going about 2750, if I remember right. The 46gr charge was a touch less accurate, but was going about 2850-2900 if I remember correctly. This is out of a M700 Youth with the 20" barrel. I have to mess with them some more, but they show alot of promise. Plus, Guy has given me plenty of reason to think they will work just fine on deer. Good luck. Scotty

Thanks guys. I have ten test loads loaded up with 7828ssc and IMR 4350. Now I just have to wait for the wind to stop blowing. So here in the next few weeks I'll get my results posted.

So... is 3278 to fast for a 95 BT out of a 26" barrel .243 win? The load was 45.5 gr. 7828 SSC. No sticky bolt lift but the primmer is a bit cratered. It shot into 3/4" and had pretty good SD and ES numbers. I also got a group with 41 gr IMR 4350 that was abou the same six. It was goining 3174 and didn't have as good of SD and ES.

Is it safe to play with a load that is flirting with to hot? I know some people have said that they shoot 47 gr of 7828. I loaded up to that but stopped shooting at 45.5 (Nosler book max). 3278 just seems really fast for a non improved 243.

I just finished loading for my sons 243, it is a M700 Youth with the 20" barrel. I was getting about 2900 and change out of his, with excellent accuracy. I just prepped those same cases and there weren't any signs of overpressure. While shooting they weren't sticky or anything, I was shoot at about 75 degrees that day also. I am going to pick back up with that load and see what I can do. Seems your barrel is pretty fast or 6" extra really makes a big difference. I know the accuracy was really good for the 95gr bullets and IMR7828. Scotty
