JTI, welcome to the forum. I don't have any experience with the Viht powders, but have a good load using WW cases, CCI BR2's, 44gr of RL19, and the 100gr PT. It runs about 2900 out of my son's 20" barreled M700. I am very happy with it. I know there is probably more speed somewhere, but for 300 yard and under shooting, this load will work fine I think. Scotty
I have 4 rifles that will all shoot the 100 gr pt sub moa or better, and one thats about 2moa( 7600 pump) . 3 are 243 wins and 1 6mm remmy, the load I use for a hunting load is. 43 gr Hy-brid 100, win brass, wlr primers, and the 100 gr pt. Start lower and work up. The hy brid 100 is a star preformer in these cals. Oh and the 2 moa 7600 pump has more dead deer under it's belt then the other 4 put togather. I'll be lending it out again to a new hunter whose dad does not have money enough to buy a new rifle for his kid. And I am quite sure it will be another, first kill credit for the ol pump, which as a loaner rifle has many under it's belt. It's actually quite funny how the before and after inferences of the 6mm/243 cal turns out. I ussually get well a 243 isn't enough gun but I'm between a rock and a hard spot so I'll let my kid use it and we'll see. By the time I get the kid accustomed to the rifle ,the saftey, the mag release and have him put some rounds down range , I can have most of them hit a grapefruit size target cositently at a 100 , and probably 80% at 200. I always tell who ever is hunting with the newbie to keep shots at 125 yrds or less, the 100 pt and hy-brid 100 do the rest. I have seen many doubters, return the loaner with a kid and a big smile and a dead deer, to say were saving up to by him a 243 next year. Another side note is that savage and there youth rifles have really taken advantage of the younger shooters coming up . pretty smart. Sorry for the Hi Jack, I got rambling. But for everything I reload for this is the one load I do not mess with.
Thanks for tips, quite hot loads you are using if I just compare the powder speeds.
I did some loading with the recipies I found from Paananen's book. With N550 powder and starting load was 34.5gr and then with 0.5gr steps till 36.9gr which was mentioned to be maximum load.
Best accuracy was with 35.0gr but I wasn't satisfied with the speed (2560fps) so next best accuracy was with 36.5gr which gave speed of 2700fps.
It was quite a cold weather so I think the temperature might have caused the drops in speeds compared to calculated speeds. I was aiming to have speeds above 2850fps but as I'm using two rifles with different lenghts I need to be certain that this load works with both of them.
I'll go with 36.5gr for roe deer and forest reindeer, yes indeed we can hunt them here. Last time was a couple of weeks ago I was looking 15mins of three forest reindeer having breakfast on a grass field. I just have to wait until the mating season is over and then can start hunting.
