I was wondering if anyone here is using this combination for whitetails and how well it works for you? I have several different powders I want to try, including IMR 7828SSC, Varget, H4350, RL-19, and IMR 4064. Any suggestions on which works best?
Thanks,
Don

I don't use my 243 for deer hunting, but I've done a bit of paper punching. Of the powders you list, The ones that worked best for me were: IMR-4064, IMR-7828, H4350 in that order. I found about the same results (as far as accuracy) with 95 gr and 100 gr bullets. For deer hunting, I would suggest you also try some 100 gr partitions, your gun might just "love" them.

I've used the 95 grain ballistic tip Nosler for deer. It works great! Am using it in the 6mm Remington.

It can be a very accurate bullet. As an example - it has produced 3-shot groups of about 5/8" in an older 22" barreled Rem 700 BDL. That was handloaded over a stiff charge of Reloader 22.

My son used that rifle on his first mule deer hunt. He took one shot on a mulie at about 275 yards. About a 180 pound doe. The little 95 grain ballistic tip hit low in the mulie's chest. Took a big gouge out of the heart, destroyed a lung, and exited through the deer's off-side leg, shattering the leg bone. The bullet buried itself in the hillside beyond.

Needless to say, the mulie collapsed immediately, stone dead.

I really can't ask for better performance than that. Accuracy well under one MOA, and excellent terminal ballistics. I think it is just about a perfect deer bullet for the .243 Winchester or the 6mm Remington.

I have used this projectile for the last 10 years on Pigs, large Kangaroo, and Deer , both in New Zealand & Australia. I am a Farmer and live on the job . I would shoot about 10-20 rounds a day on roos and pigs, when we go out spotlighting for roos , pigs foxes , it is not uncommon to fire 40- to 60 rounds each. I have found this round to be a good allround projectile to have in the mag , as you never know what animal is going to pop up during a days work or nights spotlighting. The 90gr BT is a very good performer on pigs and deer , but is a little heavy and stout for soft skinned kangaroo. I now use 80gr BT on a nights spotlighting for roos, they seem almost ideal. But as for a allround bullet for my 243, I always carry a mag full of 90's.

Mine likes IMR 4350 and IMR 4895.

I have one I shot through gallon milk jugs. Final wt when picked out of the 4th jug was 55gr.

The second jug was destroyed the most and the other two had big "exit" holes in them.

Not shot a deer with it yet but think it will do a fine job!
