I been useing Barnes X bullets but am switching over to E-tips. One of my go to rifles is a Ruger No.1 25/06 with a 26 inch barrel. First, How does the E-tip work compared to the barnes X bullet? Anybody have a suggestion for a good 25/06 load with a 100 gr. E-tip? thank you

I've used Barnes TSX for well over ten years, and I've loaded E-Tips in several cartridges during the past two years. Performance is equivalent between the two bullets. Both are excellent bullets with superb weight retention. I'm not routinely loading for the 25-06, so I'll have to leave that for someone else to address.

I have had great luck with WLR Primers, and any good 100 grain bullet on top of 52-53 grains of H4350. As time goes on, I find that is my go to powder in any of the 30-06 family of cases and several others that arent. Would say my OAL but each gun is different and thats part of the fun, figuring it out for your own rifle!

Good luck to you, I am sure this 100 E-tip will be an amazing game-getter. My Remington 25-06 is mostly a coyote rifle these days as I have ample big game rifles of other larger calibers to choose from. But I have killed several deer with it and my cousin shot an elk with it with some 120 grain Partitions I loaded up years back.

I believe JD338 loads the 100 gr. E-tip in his 25-06 so he'll probably pipe up here pretty soon!

I use IMR4350 in my wife's 25-06 with the 120 gr. Partition and it's worked very well. I messed with H4831SC here just a bit but not enough to really get a load with it or to tell if it would work well although I believe it would be a great powder as well. As stated previously H4350 would be a good one too! Good luck.
My son uses the 90 gr. Nosler E-tip in his 6mm Remington and it has done a real number on deer, antelope, and a nice cow elk in 2010.

I have loaded the 100 gr E-Tip in a 257 Roberts with good accuracy and excellent velocity.

Just remember that the E-Tip has a long bearing surface and pressures spike quickly.
Be sure to use the mid range load data as your MAX load and work up to it.

I'm interested in this FJ4E...
The Hodgdon load data maxes out at 50gn H4350 for a 100gn bullet in .25-06Rem.
However, I too have been using 52.7-53gn H4350 - in particular with the Sierra 1620 Prohunter & enjoyed great results. But, how much additional pressure is there likely to be?

I seat my bullet quite far out at 2.870" - a comparator measurement & 3.296" cartridge OAL.
In my rifle, this is .005" from the lans.

I use the same charge with IMR4350 and achieve the same POI, although I'm not sure why as velocities are a little different.
Anyone have any thoughts on this? Cheers, ET

I have a bag of 100 ET's that I so wanted to try in my 25-06, but I sent it down the road before I could try it. I love the mushroom on the ET's. they just look like a conventional mushroom and are a little easier to look at. Its all personal, but if they shoot for you, I can't think of a better bullet to handle anything in the .257's..

I got a some of the trophy grade 100 gr e-tips for my .25-06 last year and LOVE them. I was asking Nosler to load the 110gr Accubonds but I'm so impressed with the E-Tip performance at the range and on 1 nice Whitetail buck I'm thinking this could be the perfect .25-06 load.

I have two Ruger #1B's in 25-06. One looks like a brand new rifle and the other one looks like it was rode hard and put away wet. The one that looks NIB won't shoot anything worth a damn and the "ugly" one is sub-MOA with the 120 gr. Speer Hot-cores. Neither one will shoot 100 gr. bullets worth spit as both have very long throats and are old enough to have those Wilson barrels. I'd planned to use the beat up one as a donor but now it'll probably be the "pretty" one unless I can get it to shoot.

My last .25-06 liked a healthy dose of IMR 7828 and a WLRM primer behind the 100 Etip... I'll have to pull the book out to see the exact load, but I do remember it ran 3300 and some change. Never shot any critters with it... so I can't comment on that.
