25/06 Ballistic Tip Loads

Man, I am looking forward to really working with the 25-06 shortly! Should be a fun rifle. Plus, I really need a little brother to the Whelen!

I don't know how one really defines a classic in the shooting industry,?, but the .25-06 is one in my opinion. However arguabaly, perhaps the best deer round ever.

I was stuck on the 25-06 from the early writings of Bob Milek from Gun's and Ammo. Used to love to read about his love affair with the 25-06 (and 35 Whelen)..

It really does seem like an excellent deer rifle though Dave. I have a decent supply of 115 and 120 PT's from my last 25-06, unfortunately, I never took a deer with it. Hope to fix it with the next one. It does look pretty good when running the numbers though. Nothing the others don't, but I know the recoil will be a little bump on the shoulder. That is pretty nice sometimes.

Me too, and also had the pleasure of talking with Bob a few times. But not forgetting his other favorite's the .45-70 in the Ruger #1, and also same in the Centender Pistol, along with the 7-30 Waters in the Contender. Might as well throw the .35 Rem. in there too. And while thinking about it, he said while he would not advocate such, but the .25-06 with 120gr. PT's was one of his favorite Elk rounds. Although, he also said he limited his shots to under 150yds. for such use.
He and JD Jones were/are my mentors, for getting into handgun hunting! And for using the .45-70 as a whole.
 didn't mean to stray too far from the topic, but the man still has a long lasting spot in my memories!!

Same here, wished he had some books like Bob Hagel has.. I love to read both of those two. I still remember Bob Milek shooting the big stag with the 35 Whelen. That was THE story that got me. His handgun hunting was very cool as well.

Oh ya,,,,I think remember that one in part. Wasn't that also about same the time Remington started their Limited Classic production runs, and irrc, the .35 Whelen was the first?,,,,with the .25-06 the following year. And yes, Hagel also provided some excellent reading!!

I think he did use the M700 Classic for that hunt? I know it was a Whelen, just can't remember much else.

Man was I off by a few years,,, the Limited's started in "81", and the Whelen run was in "88"...
Not that it has anything to do with the OP and .25-06,,,LOL
Well in a way I could include in point,,,the .25-06 was not included in the 25 year run. Suprising!!!

I have two .25-06's, W'by Vanguard and a No.1, and amen to the guy who said something about seating depth. Those two rifles want very different OAL's. I'm real new to rifle reloading and kinda dense, too, so it took me awhile. For me, 52 gr of IMR 4831 does best. It's an addictive hobby, tho, be forewarned.
