25-06?

Great read so far. Thanks for the info. I will talk to my dad about the BT and AB when it comes time to load up for the 25-06 if he orders on.

I would like to see a 257 117 LRAB though

I think they be better off at a 100-107 grain LRAB personally. You run into twist issues based on bullet length.... and they can't go much longer than the 115 NBT or 115 Berger (.430 and .450 respectably).

I'm thinking they could drop that extra 15% in mass, and use that to make it slicker... kinda like the 150/7mm LRAB... a substantial step up over its NBT big brother. Long boat tail, and long secant ogive... and you might could eek .475-.500 out of it without running into stability issues, as it would be the same OAL as the 115 NBT.

Out of a .25-06, you'd be looking at a 100 grain bullet, with a BC of .500ish... That you could scoot at 3300+. Now that would be a monster for 55-60 grains of powder. AND, it's 15-20% reduction in recoil vs. the 115..... that's a lot of wins.

Fotis.... it'd just be more of a good thing man...

Coyotes and targets long range 243 is probly smarter route to go.

however, throw big muleys, occasional black bear or cow/spike elk in the mix and id rather have my 2506 with a 115-120g bullet anyday over the 243 with a 100g bullet.

Thats where I think the really only big difference lies for me.

I would love to see a .500 .257" bullet...that way would halfway compare with the 6mm/105s and 6.5mm/123s out to 1k.

The 115 NBT is still my go to bullet for long range shooting and hunting from the 25/06.

The berger is not worth the small gain in BC to outweigh the price and consistent terminal performance.

Interesting discussion...my first "favorite" rifle was a 25-06, in the mid to late 1980's...not many people had even heard of it back then, at least not in my neck of the woods.

I've never compared it to the 243...I never cared for the 243 back then, lol...but I do have and use one now, mostly for coyotes...I no longer have a 25-06, but it will always hold a special place in my heart.

I may look at these two rounds a bit differently than most...but I really don't put them in the same category. The 25-06 is a light big game round than can double as a varmint round....the 243 is a varmint round that can double as a medium game round.

I was late to the 243 party...and only got there by accident...but it is a dandy little round for heavy varmints...coyotes and such...would probably make a nice dedicated wolf killer too....I'd like to get a chance to find out.

Having seen lots of deer killed with both rounds...the 25-06 does it better, more consistently...a lot like a bolt of lightning (270ish)

Just my opinion...doesn't mean its gospel for everyone.
