25 Sherman

This got me curious, so I looked at some reamer prints.

In the case of 25 caliber the neck length is .227 Gibbs and .293 Sherman.
The Sherman has less case taper and a 40deg shoulder vs the Gibbs at 35 deg.
Now, what this translates into as far as accuracy and performance differences, case life etc I can’t say.

I’ve been waiting to figure out which case to use to a long actioned 25x, and a short barrel to use it suppressed . 22” -20” roughly, 1/2”’will be in the can but a 9” TBAC still gets it long.

I’ve had Manson Precision make me a few reamers, 25x47 Lapua w/a .195 and .180 freebore, and a 280 AI FMR.

I haven’t made a dummy round yet with the Peterson 280 AI brass and a 25 cal. Bullet, I’d imaging a loaded round would be around .2845”-.2850” using Peterson brass since the necks are thicker than RP, and Nosler brass.

What are your rounds measuring?

When you said that you wanted to recut the length of the throat for the 115 BT, what is the freebore for the 25 Sherman if that’s the case? I would have thought he took that into consideration for the length of bullet(s) that are available?

I haven’t loaded a 115 BT into my 25x47, but with the amount of freebore I have I’d think it would be barely in the case? But maybe not due to the ogive nose profile of them?

I’ve only used the Berger 133 EH, and 135 LRHT’s in my x47 Lapua.

My reasoning is that since I already have a SAC 280AI die, easy to make brass with a straight 25x280AI.

We’ve already done various other 25’s, SAUM’s, and a 25x7 PRC…. which worked really well with a 22” barrel. Less than 1 moa @1,200 yards.

I have a Borden Timberline Magnum action w/a Watt extended box that’s cut long. I bought a standard .473” bolt and a magnum .532” bolt when I had it made so I could go in either direction.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Oh, what did you use for the OD of the neck for the chamber reamer?
