257 Roberts QL Request

So just completed our application to NMDGF for the upcoming season and am ecstatic to say that my 8 year old daughter wants to hunt for herself this year! This is what I’ve been waiting for all of my life! I’ve been doing some thinking on what rifle to outfit her with and keep coming back to her mom’s Kimber 84m in 257 Roberts. It’s light enough for her to handle and has a great recoil pad on it. I think I can make up some reduced loads for practice pretty easily that should be fairly manageable in the recoil department, but can I please ask you guys to run a QL projection for me for a 22” barrel using the 110 AccuBond up to 64k? I think it would work well for antelope, deer, and maybe even a cow elk in a pinch.

That'll be a special time for both dad and daughter. My girls always wanted to go fishing with me, and I was only too glad to have them along. Those were special times that passed far too quickly. Congratulations on this opportunity, Joe.

Congratulations, Joe. The 257 Roberts is a great choice for her. Consider yourself very lucky, I could never get my daughter interested in hunting, she enjoys target shooting, but left the all the blood and guts hunting to her brother. Her words, not mine. LOL

Thank you guys for the QL assist and kind words! It seems like a different era when we were stationed in NM and she was just a baby. Now here we are and she’ll be 9 this fall. I about fell out of my chair when she said she wanted to hunt on her own tag this year and take the hunter’s safety course. We had a great time this last fall on our cow elk hunt and our family has been eating plenty of elk to reduce our freezer stock. NM has some great hunts for kids to build their interest, but I hope we can beat some stiff drawing odds to make it happen.

Joe I wish you and your daughter the best. That little 257 Roberts should work like a champ for you guys. The 110 gr. AccuBond should work very well as would a 100 gr. Partition. Have fun with this adventure and make sure your little princess has fun. Keep the shooting sessions short and interesting. Anything we can do to help just let us know!
