I have some 140 accubonds for my 260....

what powders would you suggest and what speeds should i get out of a 22" 5R bartlein barrel?

I am using Nosler or Norma brass, both on backorder presently

Intended game is deer, hogs and maybe elk

thoughts?

Try H4831 or H000. Powders that will work well with the 260 are medium burn rate powders. Thus, other powders that should give you reasonable performance would include IMR 4350, IMR 4831, RL19 and Hunter. You should be able to generate 2700 to 2800 fps in your rifle.

Lots of powders work well in the 260 Rem, I have had good success with IMR 7828ssc, IMR 4350, H 4350 and H 4831sc. The last two powders are my favorites, expect speeds in the 2700 fps range with 140's.

Good Luck with your loads.

they won't be too heavy for deer. I like the 130 grain AB for my .260, but have not tried the 140 grain bullets out there. I never felt there was a need to go heavier in the 6.5 caliber when you look at the BC and SD of the 130 grain bullets. Think about how many hunters have harvested deer and elk with a 130 bullet in a .270 winchester, and how much better the BC and SD's are for the 6.5 bullet compared to the .270.

I doubt the animal you are hunting will know the difference with either bullet you try. Go with the one that is the most accurate.

Dixie,

257Ackley has given you good advice. Heavier bullets will kill deer effectively. Use the one that shoots best in your rifle and enjoy the hunt. I'll shortly begin load development for the 260 I purchased for my grandchildren. I'll be taking them after deer, black bear, elk and moose. I'll likely focus on the 130 grain AB and/or the 140 grain PT. If necessary, I'll be prepared to drop back to the 125 grain PT. I want the bullet to maintain its integrity should it impact heavy bone, punching through to the vitals. Any of those bullets (and lighter still) will serve to cleanly take deer at reasonable distances.

I really think the 125gr PT would be pretty awesome in the 260. It would be darn near the speeds of the 130 in the 270 Win and in a much lighter and compact rifle. Hopefully the 260 hangs in there. I am seriously looking for a 260 for my next rifle. It will kind of round out my hunting arrangement. I see Tikka is chambering the 260 in their Laminated Stainless line and man, they look like sharp rifles. Scotty

My .260 may be for sale once I get the 6.5 build done on either the Wsm or 6.5X284. I know how much you love those CDL's, so it will fit right in there with your 35 Whelen.

Ah yeah, probably not. I do appreciate the offer though! I am pretty sure I have bought my last Remington. The Whelen will be the backbone of my Rem's! Scotty

The 140 gr AB will get the job done. The 125 gr PT is also know as a proven penetrator.
