260 Remington

Those bullets are on my future list to try out. Hopefully someone can put these in water jugs. Curious on the results.
NBT seems to have a thicker base and a less jacket thickness in the ogive than the GameChanger.
They work very well on w t deer I gave them a pretty good test last year .

Alliant RL26 , 50.4 grains , 3005 FPS . the case fill , at max load , is a little high at 107.9% . if you used a drop tube powder funnel , I doubt you would have any issues .

the big problem with this powder is finding it .

I did a lot of work with a 260 . I have posted up a bunch of load data , but it's scattered through these threads . maybe something I have listed will help you in the future . I think I pretty much used , RL26 , and RL17 powders . I used H4895 for the reduced loads .

reduced recoil load info .

I don't have much to add but I'll share mine and my daughters experience with the .260. My daughter has been shooting one for around 16yrs now. I can't comment on a 130-140gr bullet because we've never used anything over a 120gr bullet but i'll share our experience with what we've used. She started out with a Rem model 7 at age 10 and fell in love with the .260. She used it for a couple seasons and harvested several deer with it using a 120gr bullet and IMR 4320 which turned out to be a real diamond in the rough for that particular rifle, it was very accurate.
For her 12th birthday i bought her a Rem 700 SPS .260 dropped it in a rem 700 CDL wood stock and at age 24 she still shoots it. We started off with the Nosler 120gr BT and it was good but it nearly became extinct back then so we had to find something else and chose the Sierra 120gr Pro Hunter. We tested IMR4320 but for some reason that rifle said no to that powder even though the model 7 absolutely loved it. We moved on to H4350 and she has killed a truck load of deer with that bullet and powder combination. We also tested IMR4895 with the same 120gr Pro Hunter and it shot very well but we settled on the H4350 because it proved to be a little more accurate and very consistent so that is her pet load as of today. That little Sierra 120gr Pro Hunter really kills far better than it should and has performed excellent on deer over the years at all ranges as well as several coyotes. She has so much confidence in it that it's the only bullet she wants to shoot so when they were available i purchased about 1000 and she should be set for life. I know none of this helped with your inquiry of a heavier bullet from the .260 but i thought i would throw another punch for what i consider an overlooked sweet caliber that's a pleasure to shoot. Mike

Jim I don't have any RL26 powder, but I just wonder if the new Ramshot Grand powder would make a good substitute?

sorry , I can't answer this question for you . my quickload program does not have Ramshot Grand listed . maybe an email , or phone call , to Ramshot would get you an answer .

that dang RL26 was like magic for giving velocity . if it ever becomes available you could buy a pound and give it a try .

if you look at the second chart I posted , down the left hand side is the powders in order according to velocity . the highest velocity is at the top . RL26 is the only powder in the 3000 FPS . choosing a powder from this list , I watch case fill % , and velocity . stay under 110% case fill , and use a drop tube powder funnel . the drop tune funnel helps to settle the powder in the case . I'd sure give the 6.5 staball powder a try , it could be very accurate in this combination .

the chart is set up ;

powder name .......... case fill %..............charge weight in grains ..........charge weight in grams ...............velocity

I love the 260. Could never figure why it didn’t take more ground from the 243 🤔

I recently played with the 100barnes TTSX which shot well with varget and approached 3,200fps out of a 24 inch barrel. I haven’t used it on game but suspect it would go pretty well.

The other thing that makes me scratch my head is how the 260 is a youth or woman’s round, whereas the 6.5 creedmore is anything but. Reckon I have been shooting the 260 for over two decades, mostly with the 120nbt’s and it has been outstanding.

260 wasn't promoted by Remington enough. Kinda of a redheaded stepchild like the 6.5x55 but both really good rounds. Dan.

That TTSX load would be really useful. I mostly have used 130 gr and heavier but did try the 100 gr Partition with Varget to take a blacktail deer. Worked well, short run and a decent sized exit wound. The Barnes would work just a well.

I checked my Hodgdon Annual Manual and for a Nosler 130 AccuBond it shows a starting load of 45.5/2538 fps and a max load at 50.0C/2788. This should give you some parameters to work with.

+1's to the posts about the 120 bullets. I started my wife on a 260 loaded with 120 BTs and she killed a bunch of deer with them. When she moved to a Creedmoor we stayed with the same bullets and she's had continued success. In tbe 260 I used Varget and the Creedmoor got IMR 4451. In my opinion, the 120's kill out of their weight class on whitetails .

I slotted a nice young red deer buck a couple of years ago with the 260rem and the 120nbt. Took a few steps and fell over. I was pretty chuffed at the time, 303 yards from one hilltop to the next. I always felt if I needed a bigger bullet I would grab a bigger cartridge. The BC of the 120nbt is plenty good enough inside 300-400 yards.
