Monday Nov 17th
12 degrees that morning and it started off slow.
Had seen one or two does early at about 425 yards and that was it.

My buddy Mark was in the stand with me that morning.
About 9 AM he looks at me and says "there is a doe right here "
Sure enough, 40 yards in front of the blind there was a doe standing in the CRP grass.
Couldn't see much of her because the grass is about 6 feet tall right there.

About the time we saw her I caught movement out of the corner of my eye.
I saw this buck with his nose on the ground on the same trail we'd seen the does on at daylight.
He was obviously on a hot doe.
We watched him for 5-6 minutes birddogging her through the grass as he searched for his lost love.
At about 250 yards he turned and started right toward the stand.
He ended up right where we'd first seen the doe, at 40 yards.
A neck shot at 40 yards was his undoing.

He didn't have any brow tines or he'd have been given a pass.

Ironically I shot last years buck just before 9 AM on Nov 17th.

Stay tuned, archery season is open until Jan 15

Great job! I love that load. Talk about extremely awesome at killing deer.

Great hunt buddy. What'd the neck look like?

Well Scotty I didn't think about it but at 40 yards the bullet hit lower than where I was holding.
Basically just blew a chunk of his throat out. Most of the neck was still intact and got turned into roasts.
Hydrostatic shock killed him.

Howard,

Congratulations on the buck. That load is smokin'.

Yep that is what I am getting with my 27 3/4" barrel 264 Win mag with 66.5 grs Retumbo in WW cases made from 7mm Rem mag cases, with CCI 250 primers with the 130 AccuBond. Awesome on deer from in your lap to waaaaaaaaay out there. I have never had a deer go more than two hops like a kangaroo after taking one. Killed 20+ deer and all have been BANG FLOP except that one. I shoulder shoot everything when possible.

All my brass is made from 7RM as well.
I've shot three deer and two aoudad sheep with this rifle. The deer were DRT .
Two were shot in the neck and one in the head at 245 yards.

The Auodad sheep also fell to it but neither was DRT due to me shooting Berger bullets.
Creedmore had to shoot one of them two more times with an AR.
( lesson learned, no more Berger bullets on anything with hair. Paper ? Maybe ... )

Creedmore's dad gave me quite a ration of bull over building it with a 28 inch barrel.
Now that I've been shooting it for a while he's decided to rebarrel his 264 to a 28 incher.

Nice Buck Howard.

You were up in Missouri correct? Can't believe how cold it was compared to the last three rifle openers... Wish I could have went out.

Pat my lease is just north of Nevada off of 71.
The Marmaton river is our eastern boundry.

Yes it was pretty chilly but I cheated.
Built an enclosed 4x6x7 box stand and had a propane heater in it running full blast.
Getting three inches of snow was a treat though.
First time it had snowed opening weekend of rifle season in 27 years according to the old timers we hunt with.
Went back up for the first weekend of doe season and it was in the mid 60s and 30 mph winds.
