Finally got a chance to try the 150 LRAB with some IMR-4831. I also tested a case full H-4831 sc with mediocre 2 inch groups. Then I shot a three shot group with 55 grains of IMR-4831. Thru the scope I thought I missed the whole target with shots two and three. After shooting a few 140 AB,s and 130 PT,s I finally went down range to see what was happening. Those 150 LRAB,s did not miss. they are in same place. Happy.Happy Happy

This hobby can drive a guy crazy.....I'm sure you deserved this result to make up for one from the past not quite so fun!

Nice work!
4 clicks west and you are set to go.

You got that right. The day started out rather crappy. I set up on the two hundred yard range for some fun shooting with my old JC Higgins model 50 .270 and 130 AB,s. I fired two rounds and saw the bullets were way off, I knew something was quite wrong. Aclose inspection of the rifle revealed a forend screw that was completely loose and the stock cracked near the recoil lug. failure to torque that screw after a good cleaning cost me a stock. Oh well. The rest of range day went great. My 130PTs and 140 AB, were shooting darn fine so the day was OK all and all.

Glad to see they work for you. My 270 Bee loves them too. 3280 fps

Ya Fotis, that Bee at that velocity is a long range lazer beam. The BC is incredible. I,m acually not done with my load. I will be increasing the charge in .2 increments. The .270 Winchester is quite capable 2950 to 3,000 with 150,s. I know that if I ever decide to buy another magnum it will be a .270 magnum wsm or Bee. Certainly in the standard .270 and magnums the 150 LRAB will likely earn a great reputation.

Good results from both of you. Looks like 270 owners of every persuasion have a great all round bullet now.

Fotis, those things are howling! Impressive accuracy and speeds.

Hubcap,

Thanks for the posting. Nice shooting. Did you by any chance measure the velocities you achieved with the IMR 4831? Also, where did you find the load? I don't see IMR 4831 listed in Nosler's reloading guide for the 150 gr. bullets. I might give that load a try.

I use nosler manual no. 1 more than anything else for the .270. For 150 PT,s 55 gr. is a max load. Typically in my rifle 150 gamekings, PT,s,BT,s run 295o to 2970 with 56 grains of IMR-4831. 57 is rifle max . When I drop back 1 gr, from rifle max I end up with a max hunting load that deliveries the goods. My guess is that the velocity is what Fotis guessed. 2850 to 2900 with 55 grs. Certainly I will chrony the 150LRAB real soon. Next week I will know more.

I was able to hit 3030 for an avg with 7828ssc. Very good groups. I haven't had a chance to revisit it since but I am looking forward to it.

You did some awesome shooting there man. I love the .270win. Those 150 ABLRs just plain rock.

I use nosler manual no. 1

Ah, yes, there it is in Manual Number One. Um, those of us who still have our Nolser Reloading Manual Number Ones are dating ourselves. I bought mine in the early eighties......

I also have:

Sierrra - Second edition
Hornaday - Second edition
Speer - Number Ten
Lyman - 45th edition

I haven't been using these old timers too much lately. Shame on me.

Great shooting Hubcap. Those 150 ABLR's are pretty danged great shooting bullets in my WSM at 3150 as well.

Now that is exciting :). I was out yesterday & shot 3 different loads using RL-22 & the 150gr. ABLRs.
My OAL was 3.340".
Loads were as follows 54.5grs. Approx 1.5" MOA.. 55.0grs. Approx 2.0" MOA & 55.5 Approx 2.5" MOA.
Did not have a lot of time so not too worried about MOA.
Will be loading 54.5grs. for this weekend for the Cow Moose hunt.
I am interested in that IMR 4831.

Blessings,
Dan

You ain't the only one. I have the Nosler manuals from #1 all the way through to #7. All the Hornady's from #1 to the #9, all The Sierras an all the Speers except #1 and #3 which I keep looking for. I have a mix mish mash of the Lyman manuals. The come in awfully handy when someone asks about a long discontinued powder. A small town PD came into a 50 pound keg of 5066 pistol powder and no data. One of my friends on that PD knew I had some older Lmans and asked if I had data for that powder for 9MM. I did. That PD gave me 5 pounds of the stuff for my trouble. I loaded up quite a few .45 ACP with that powder and sure wish I had more. My .45 flat out loved that powder.
When a new manual comes out, I add a copy to the collection.

Man, I'm going crazy thinking about shooting the new 150 ABLR. The guys at Bartlein even spec'd a 1-9 twist for my .270 Win when I told them that I'd be shooting that bullet extensively. It sure seems accurate, fast, and with the kind of terminal performance we've come to expect from the AB. Guess I'll keep holding my breath until she's back from the metalsmith. Congrats to you guys using them in the field already and Dan I've got my fingers crossed that you'll stick a nice moose with that new round. Walt Prothero was a big fan of 150gr .270s for moose, and heaven knows I'm a big fan of his! Happy hunting and good luck.

Just a few more words about nosler no.1. Back in 1982 when bought my reloading equipment I also purchased a chrony as well. It did not take long to discover that listed loads in book-1 were darn close to listed velocity. All I had to do was subtract 15 to 20 FPS per inch of barrel and the data for a 22 inch barrel was real close. Nosler book 1 listed a 26 inch test barrel. With 130,150 and 160 PT,s the velocity using IMR-4831 is to this day real close to that listed in the old manual. With 140 PT,s I interpulate a max load of 56 gr. since the 130 is 57 max while the 150 is 55 and the 160 is 54. When incorporating a fudge factor of only one gr. above listed max the .270 will flat get-er done.
This target was shot in in 1986 with a 150 gameking and IMR-4831 56.0 grs. Velocity was 2970.
