Saw the post about the 7600 Rem in 270 win and was spurred to load some ammo for my 760 I bought in New Mexico a few years ago. I finally got a scope on it but haven't done anything else. I went out on a limb and did something different for me and used a factory crimp on the rounds. I have some 140 ABs with cannelures so I used them. 52gr H4350 because I have a bunch of it. We'll wait and see if the old boy is a shooter. Heck, it's older than me by a couple years.

I’ve got a 7600 in 270 likes imr4831 but h4350 is 54gr with 130 AB it’s a drop em where they stand loading

Nice looking older 760. Classic. Never tried 4350 in the 270 but know others who do and it groups for them. Hope it does for you.

The old 760 exceeded my expectations. The 140 AB and H4350 grouped well at 11/2" three shots at 100 yds. I experienced some frustration zeroing the old VariX Ii 2x-7x Leupold. Played chase the zero for a while and finally got ot on. It shot well enough I'm gonna need to do some serious load development.

I went exclusively to the 150 gr. bullet in the .270. Top performers have been the 150 gr. Sierra Game King and Nosler Partition. Last animal I shot with a .270 was an antelope in New Mexico. Shot was at 75 yards as determined by my guide and it an in about 30 foot half circle and expired. Meat damage was quite small.

Both of my bolt rifles, win 70 & rem 700, in 270 win prefer the 150gr bullets too.

Nice 760, mine is set up with Skinner Sights but it still shoots really well out to 250. Mines using 150 PT and RL23..

I played the same game with my Vari X II 2-7 I mounted in my savage 99 308. It’s dead on now but I’m using Hornady 150gr whitetail hunter

Those things can do a fine job, and are often quite accurate. Looks like you got a good one!

I remember reading about the Model 7600/270 Win in a gun magazine, seems like the late 70's or early 80's. anyhow, it shot some very tiny groups! The article was saying how well it competed with a good bolt gun.

It’s a centerfire 870 that’s accurate. 760 is a fine rifle. I’ve got an 870 that I can run like a semi-auto. If you can cycle an 870 well nothing in the woods will be safe from it, even if it’s on the move. Once the load it likes is found I think you’ll be very happy.

I'm gonna stick with the 140 ABs but I will start moving the load up and see how it handles a little more pressure. Maybe try it with Grand. I also need to master the trigger. By the way, I also have an old Rem 740 in 244 Rem that I've had for a while and haven't even fired. It is vintage 1956. Shame on me.

Rem brought it out to compete with the 243WW but put the wrong twist for the 244 in the barrel and it killed the sales since it wouldn't shoot all bullet wieghts well.
They changed the name to 6mm Rem and changed the twist rate but the damage was done.
I always wanted a 6mmRem but settled for the 257 Roberts instead when I found a custom Douglas barrel in .257 cal on close out for half the price so I had it screwed on a 725 Rem action and have been very happy with it.

My buddy's 760 .270 shot 1.5" groups with Rem 130 Cor-Locts in factory fodder. His shooting style was to whip his head back quickly to avoid getting whacked by the ocular lense of the Charles Daily scope. Comical to watch. But it woked for him.
