270 win 130 nosler

Need a couple suggestions for a tried and true load for a 270 winchester with 130 nosler partitions. Would prefer loads with IMR 4831, but also have IMR 4350 as a backup.

This load will be going out of a 24" barrel - so I am looking to find something around 3000 fps with some accuracy.

Thanks!!!!

130 PT
IMR-4831, 57 gr.
Rem brass
cci-200 primer
3010 FPS
22 inch barrel
The above is what I get in my sears-53. With a 24 inch barrel 56 may do it. Start lower and work up. The 130 PT is always an moa or better bullet for me.

H4831 is the classic powder for the 270 Win. RL22 is another excellent choice too.

I've used this load in my friends Belgian BAR with 130 gr Accubonds and SSTs. Only substitute was Rem 9 1/2 primer and I backed it off a grain as this rifle has an extremely short throat. Got ~2900 fps. Lights out accurate with the SST, accepatable accuracy with the AccuBond. Got 1.5-2MOA with the AccuBond, this rifle is a MOA gun with the right load. Also got good results with some H414 I had laying around to use up for practice ammo. Never chrono'd that load but it grouped nicely with the SST.

H 4831 60 grs 130 gr bullets works together like ice cream and apple pie. Will do 3100 fps or so from a 24" barrel and usually shoots little bitty groups and smacks the punk out of most anything it hits.

I am a IMR4350 man but will being trying RL22 in the near future.
My IMR 4350 load is 54.5 grs & 130gr. ABs. speed out of my CDL is 3050fps.
Please start lower and work up.
The MOA is .5 or better if I can do my job.

Blessings,
Dan

RL 22 has produced very good results for me. 8)

This rifle is quite accurate with just about any quality bullet but it really loves the 130gr and Reloder 22 and will print an honest repeatable 1/2 MOA. Sometimes it does even better as show by this picture.

Yes, I agree the Highwalls are a nice piece of engineering. This one of mine has seen plenty of use as a "long-range" rifle for shooting across a logging clear-cut or an alfalfa field.

Cariboo,

Beautiful rifle. She is a shooter for sure.

JD338

Yes, it's 28" long. It easily matches 270 wsm velocities and is nipping at the heels of the 270 WBY.

Even with the 28" hex barrel the rifle is still easy to pack as it weighs just over 9 pounds with the 3-9x50 scope in the picture. The overall length is also quite modest with the very short highwall action. Also, with that long barrel hanging out it has a bit of front-end "hang" and is a joy to shoot off-hand.

There was a time I owned way too any "safe queen" rifles but decided to pare the numbers down to a usable number a few years ago. This Browning is one of the ones on the "not for sale" list. LoL

MODS, sorry for the highjack of the OP's thread. Please feel free to split the thread and move the non-relevant bits to the rifle forum.

You better add another 300 ft/sec before "nipping" the Weatherby anywhere.

Btw. It´s a nice rig you have there. The Winchester 1885 singleshot highwall is a good platform for just about any rimmed/rimless cartridge. I have only had 1 original highwall in my hands but I never got to pull the trigger. How is the triggerjob on the new Brownchesters?. need modifications or are they just crisp out-of-the-box?.
Thanks for sharing. Merry Christmas.

J.

For me 130 AB or PT with 60 or 60.5 H4831 sc with CCI B2 primer. My COL is 3.295
From my 22 in barrel about 3000 FPS, very accurate.
Happy Holidays

With the 28" barrel it is very easy to get 3300 fps with a 130 grain bullet but accuracy suffers. The trigger on mine - the Browning version of the 1885 - is very good.

I just noticed you are from Denmark. You may recognize another very accurate rifle I own. 8)

You have some really interesting guns, never seen a 7x61 before :) Your Browning 1885 270 Win is an eye opener, magnum ballistics without the extra cost and powder consumption. Very accurate too, nice.

I've pulled the trigger on a couple of 7X61 S&Hs. I would not mind having one; I would not mind at all. I am sorry they are not as popular as they should have been.
