Load Analysis

Could someone run this load through quickload and see what pops up. This load shot a very small group and I'd like to see how close the edge that it is running. Average Muzzle Velocity is 2998 fps.
Winchester Model 70 Featherweight 270 win 22" Barrel.
150 gr Nosler Partition
Nosler Case : 70.2 grs water capacity 2.530" case length
O.A.L. 3.330"
58.5grs IMR-7828 ssc.

I don’t have Quickload but your what I would say at the upper range, maybe a little warm but not enough that I wouldn’t hunt with it. You’re not setting the world on fire, and I wouldn’t say it’s unsafe at all. I’m fine with the load. 7828 is a pretty slow powder and I use it myself. If Your primers look ok and it shoots well you have a damn effective load.

Edit: I by no means meant to sound like a 150gr Partition is slow by any stretch of imagination at 3k fps. That’s where I’ve always tried to get with my heavier 270 loads. Sometimes I don’t type it as upbeat as it sounds in my mind.

You are right at max. If you have not seen any pressure or ejector marks, you are all good to hunt with this load, its a killer load.

Thank you TackDriver. The load sits where I thought. Right on the edge of max. Primers are flattened but no extraction problems or marks. The primer pockets are still good also. I expect this load will tame a bit in colder weather.

It won’t drop off as much as one may think. You’ll probably be over 2950 in any weather you’ll hunt in. Great load BTW. 58.5 grains IMR 7828 gives a 5 shot .383” group with 130 grain E-Tips at 3154 fps. It works really well in my remaining 270 Win from what I’ve seen.

That’s a great load right there. Not much a 150 from a 270 won’t handle.

Sounds like a great load to me as well. Not much you can't handle in NA using a 150 gr PT at 3000 fps.
