I have two remington 700's. Both in 270 win. One stainless one CMV. Li decided late last year to convert one of the 270's to a barrel that would allow me to shoot the Berger 170 GR EOL Elite Hunter. Orderd a 26" Remage McGowen Precision with 1 x 8 twist. I used the CMV 270 as the doner. Getting the barrel off was a bitch but after cutting the barrel off at the nut and then heating it it finally let loose. Any hoot I plan on using reloader 26 for this load. Checked the lands and in started .0020 back overall catridge 3.496. Loaded 54.4 ladder up to the 56.9. Just loading here to find max. Velocity ranged from 2605 to the high of 2,887. No pressure signs so I loaded a short .2 gr ladder 56.9 to 57.5 as I know I am close. Winchester brass, winchester large rifle primers. I am expecting that I will get a max of 57.1 or 57.3 as I am loading long. So either 2,930 or 2,975 fps. At sea level 2,930 equates to 3,245 fp of energy at muzzel, 1,124 fp at 1,000 yds and supersonic out just past 1,700 yds. That at sea level. At 5,000 ft elev it is supersonic to beyond 2,000 yds. Once I determine max I will update you on max load and velocity once I reach it. And then accuracy loads. WOW from a 270 win none the less.
