Hey guys,
I need some good data and or experience with 140 ab's, I have quite a few of these, had them on hand before the new 150 long rangers came out, so I will use them up. Anyway I have R19 and MagPro powder on hand, I do have large rifle and mag primers. I want to hit atleast the magical 3000 fps mark. Should I use mag primers with the magpro powder? Any ideas and experience will be much appreaciated. Shooting a Rem 700 XHR with a 24" barrel. thanks

RM,
The 140AB out of my ol' beat up pre-64 is purely amazing. I've killed several elk with it and it has never left me wanting for more. If you're looking for one bullet for deer and elk, then you've found it! The accuracy and performance have made it my go to cartridge. My trusted load of 7828ssc isn't the fastest out there at 2800 FPS, but man does lay 'em in there for a rifle made in the 1940s and it is a cream puff at the bench. I have dope on it out to 760 yds and have even shot it in our local long range precision match when my match rifle was in the shop. Simply put, I can't say enough about this combination. I'll look at my reloading book for some more specifics when I get home.

I use 140 Partitions in my .270 Win with 57.5 grs of IMR 7828 SSC, with Fed 215 MM primers, W-W brass @ 2970fps. They are sub MOA loads in my 1949 Model 70.

Magpro might be a little too slow. I'd try RL19 first. Nosler 7 goes from 51-55 grains. When trying to work up a load for my daughter's rifle, I found that a magnum primer resulted in my best groups. Adjusting the seating depth didn't seem to really help out that much. I usually try to start my AB work ups 0.03" off the lands if the mag box permits it. Not sure if you can find it, but RL 22 made almost everything sub moa in that particular rifle.

Rmarshall,

I used those 140g Accubonds for a while in my 270. I found they generated a little more pressure than the equivalent Hornady SST but were a smidge more accurate.

I settled on 59g of H4831sc for about 2950fps. That seemed to be plenty of speed to make them work very well. I don't doubt you could get them above 3000fps if you wanted it though.

Good luck.

Thanks for the replies guys, I will the r19 first off and if that don't give the results I want I will try the other

I've been using 58.0gr of H4831 for some time with the 140gr AB. My velocity isn't high at 2875fps but accuracy and terminal performance has been great. I tried RL-19 with both the 140gr AB & PT but in both cases my lower loads worked best. I used 54.0 -56.0gr in .5g increments with top velocity ~2885fps for both bullets. These loads were decent averaging .85 - 1.50" groupings but the best were @ ~2775fps.

I get my best velocity with RL-22 but accuracy wise it runs a close 2nd place behind H4831 with the 140gr AB & PT

My rem 700 loves the 140ab. I load 64.5 gr of ramshot magnum with fed 215 primers in remington brass shooting clover leafs at 100 yrds with a whopping 3110 fps. But work up slowly. 64.5 gr of magnum is completely maxed out on load data. Depending on the lot of powder and or the chamber of your rifle 64.5 gr may be to much. Good luck. The 270 and 140 ab is a killer round! Litteraly

140gr AB
Win Brass
CCI 200 primer
57gr H4831 for wife and kids
59gr H4831 for me.

Both will shoot the lights out.
I use the same load. I tried 60 gr. however that was a little too hot. 59 gr. performs well. Another great load for me is 56 grains of IMR-4831 for 2930 in a 22 inch barrel. If I want 3000 I can get it with 57 grains. Like Antelope Sniper I use standard primers with ww or remmy brass.

I'm about halfway done working up a load with H-4831SC right now, and I'll be in the 58-59 gr range if my guess is correct. FC brass, Fed 210M primers.

I would stop closer to 58 with FC brass, it's thicker then Win brass and will reach max pressure more quickly.

Went out and tested this week Wednesday. Best group is at 60.0 gr, no sign of excessive pressure anywhere. If I get a chance I will post targets. Under 3/4 MOA and 3060 fps.

Nothing wrong with that. Sounds as if you may have found your load.

I'm running 0.010 off the lands like this, almost wondering if I should try a few shorter steps and see if it gets any smaller.

Yes, I know I'm getting picky, but it has done at least this good with factory ammo if not better.

Good results so far with the Accubonds. Personally, I have never bested the Partitions with Accubonds for accuracy although I have had good results with both.

I got some really nice groups with rl22, win760, gonna try 4831 tomorrow. I have had my best accuracy with them seated .015 off rifling
