270 win NBT 130 request

Looking for the quickload report that show powders ranked by projected muzzle Velocity.
22” barrel,
Starline Brass,
Nosler ballistic tip 130gn.
Primers I have them all.

I do have a good Barnes TTSX load that works with RL17, but unsure if that’s any indication of good performance of a cup and core bullet with a different metallurgy.

Hoping to burn up some IMR or Hodgdon powders…

No QL but I’m currently using 55g imr4350 with a 130 SGK at 3080fps from my Rem700 22”. I haven’t had luck in other cartridges but in this 270 it’s doing well

Would expect nothing but love on that SGK on game. Good speed and very effective bullet.

I THINK Dads old charge was 57gr IMR 4831.
130 gr BT and Rem 9-1/2.
It was MONEY.

Thanks Phil! Many of the rounds passed to me were H4831, mostly 59 and 58.0.
Scared me a little as didn’t seem to matter what bullets he used.. loads were always the same… I shot some and ran them over my magneto speed. V was good 2950-3050, but groups were loose…the Nosler manual had the most accurate load at 55.0 grains.. so 57 could easily be a money shot.

I see what you say about not fussy… they are all flying fast!

Will post results. Expect it might be two weeks maybe three. FIL on bear hunt and granddaughter in S Carolina having a birthday… so I could be going to the UP to help drag a bear or heading to SC for cake and icecream… but will likely have ladder loaded before leaving!

^ This 10 times over. Same load with 130gr NBT. First actual ragged hole group with a Weatherby Vanguard and 3120 fps. Great load with Speer 130gr Hot Cor’s as well.

I worked up to 56gr in my savage rifle that provided 3/4” group at 200yds. I never measured speed but it was plenty to catch deers

That’s pretty interesting. I’ve been working with H4831SC quite a bit in my current 270 with 130 Speer HCs and Nosler PTs. Speeds fine at 3120’ish for both but getting knot hole sorta groups has been evading me. Sitting around 1.25” or so for 5 so I may try some IMR4831 instead.

It’s a little faster than H4831 but it’s better suited to the 270’s case capacity than H4831SC in my opinion. I also love the 130gr Hot Cor. Great bullet. RL23 is a great option too if you have any.

Thanks Joe. I have both of those. I’m going to try one more range session with H4831SC then I’ll back up and regroup. As it sits now, it’s not horrible but I think it could be a touch better.

I always get caught up chasing groups myself. Out of my own vanity I guess. I forget sometimes that even with a 2” group, that bullet is going to impact within 1” of where my crosshairs were when the shot cracked at 100 yards.
Three best powders I’ve had with the two 270’s I have are SB 6.5, RL23, and IMR4831. There are many more but these are the 3 that I’d use without question 100% of the time.

For sure. I’ll take a rifle that’ll do 5 shots MOA vs another load that’ll do 3 in a 1/4” once in awhile. For my hunting a 5 shot MOA gun will do all I need. Love seeing smaller groups but I know some of that is luck.

Start at 55 and work up …. At 57 grs you ll most likely be at or near max. Depending on brass used (capacity) I find 56-57 grs is 3100 +\- fps and typically very good accuracy. (Sons 24” barrel with WW brass and 57 grs does 3150 fps with 130 BT)
