280 Ack Imp QL Request

I'd really look at adjusting your seating depth on your 60 grain load. Looks like it could be tuned up some.

Great speed though.

I've been working on that. I did the macro testing, 0.01, 0.05, and 0.10. Closer seemed better so I tried 0.005, 0.010, 0.015, and 0.020. I don't want to do touching the lands for hunting ammo.

I knew the Berger VLD Hunting has a secant ogive, and would be sensitive to seating depth, but these thing are really kicking my butt. I see they want to be accurate, I just can't find that sweet spot.

The Barns LRX is more of a science experiment at this point.

Just a thought that may help.
Seems like pretty much all the RL26 loads we've messed with tighten up as you get hotter. It seems, at least from my experience and a couple others reports that the closer you get to max the better RL26 seems to do at least as far as accuracy. Now I am not advocating cranking it up to unsafe levels, just giving what I've seen.
As always start low and work up but don't be surprised if it starts tightening up near the top.

You might try the Classic Hunter instead of the VLD Hunting if you want to shoot a Berger. They can do with a little less twist and are a little shorter. You do give up about .05 in BC (.618 versus .566) but unless you're bombing them way out there shouldn't be that big a deal. Just a thought.

Thanks for the help guys! I have about another 1.5 grains I can go up till I get to max. I'll give it a try, but maybe not when it's already 92 degrees out

I have thought about the classic hunter. My rifle is set-up to be a walking/hunting rifle. I'd like to be consistent to 600 yards, which doesn't need the super high BC bullets.

For a real tack driver and super temp stability to 600 yards in the 280AI I would not shoot but ONE load........

150 Nosler Hunting Ballistic tip over 60 grains H4831SC......... look for accuracy node at
approx 2,950 fps from 24" barrel.

Well maybe 2 load. LOL

Have moved to the 140AB under 63 grains H4831sc and was just as easy to find accuracy. 3,150 fps from 27" brux on this gun.

Yep, I know. I KNOW I could get the ballistic tip to shoot. I also like the 160 grain AccuBond. And I do shoot H4831sc in a couple other rifles, and it works great.

I have no idea why I pulling my hair out over the Barns and Bergers. I may come back home to Nosler.

57 grains RL 26 and the 168 grain Barns LRX didn't do too bad. I think I'll try 57.5 and 58 to see if I can get a bit more speed.

That seems like you could make it do something. 2800 isn't too bad from the Ackley.
