It took some time I finally found a load for the 168 gr ABLR in the 280AI.
I will reshoot to verify accuracy.

Holy crap Jim that is great!! I might have to work up to that load in my .280 AI. I was looking at getting IMR7828SC just for the .280 and it looks like its a good one!! Is that a Federal 215 Gold Match magnum primer you used?

That looks to be a mighty fine load and some excellent riflery, Jim. A load such as that can become the stuff of envy for us lesser mortals. Congratulations.

This is the nosler rifle? Sue's rifle right?

No, my custom M700 Hart barreled rifle. Scoped with a Mark 4 45-14x40mm.
I'm thinking this would hit hard out to 800 yds.

Thanks fellas. As most of you know, this rifle is a shooter.
I was getting frustrated that I couldn't do much better tban 1-1.25".
Kind of funny as Sue was watching through the spoofing scope and
said I missed my second and third shots. I'm glad that she was able
to watch the old boy stack 'em. Of course she also
wanted to know when her M48 280AI would start
stacking 'em too.

Wow. Great shooting! Sweet load Jim.
You may have created a monster now that Sue saw that.

Nice work!!!

I might have to give them a try one day. That is some fine shooting sir!

All in good time, Jim; all in good time. (y)

Looks like you just might be on node 5 at 1.23 ms (+/- 2%)...

If for some reason you decide to tweak it...I'd tweak it up a 1/2 grain...but you're within 2% right where you're at from the looks of things.

Glad you found one that works!

Below is not perfectly matched to your rifle, I don't know your case capacity...but probably closely guesstimated.

Code:
Cartridge : .280 Ack Imp
Bullet : .284, 168, Nosler Accubond LR 58623 G7
Useable Case Capaci: 64.551 grain H2O = 4.191 cm³
Cartridge O.A.L. L6: 3.394 inch = 86.21 mm
Barrel Length : 24.0 inch = 609.6 mm
Powder : IMR 7828 SSC

incremented in steps of 0.841% of nominal charge.

Wow!

Another 280AI load using mag primers. Hmmm, I bought a brick of 210's just for a 280AI build. Maybe I was mistaken.

I'd really like to try the 168 grn ABLR, but I'm a bit concerned about the supply line. Hopefully we start seeing more on the shelves. The 168 grn Bergers look like a good VLD style bullet as well.

Really great shooting! (y)

A test of the "node theory"...try the same load in her rifle...you can check it for yourself, but the Nolser will have the freebore to handle that OAL (mine does).

I've only taken some crude measurements (don't have proper tools to do it accurately)...but all indications are that the freebore is generous in the 48...I don't think you'll get anywhere near the rifling at mag length (3.425"), especially not with ABLR's or VLD's.

SAAMI spec freebore is .179"

Jim,

How far off the lands?

I've been in the same boat 2 in 1 out. And the two in have been stacked just like that.

I'm at 3.550" to the lands on my rifle. I've ran them as short as 3.435" so far.

Ditto on that question.

Sweet! I made it to 2750 in my .280 , though not as pretty a group! I was impressed with that bullet, long and sleek.

Jim that load is Sweet and as usual your shooting ability amazes me. I was wondering if you wanted to make a trip up here for a few days and give this lefty a few pointers (y).
Thank you for posting that !

Blessings,
Dan
