I wanted to try the 120 grain Ballistic Tip with Reloader 19.
As the first attempt I was pleased to go under an inch at 100 yards.
Would anybody opt to use this bullet for antelope or small deer?
I haven't but a few that have had dynamite success with it. Guy will pop on and vouch for it as he saw it personally. The 120 is a really tough bullet as its jacket is thicker than most BT's. If I recall correctly it uses the same jacket as the 140. Looks as if your really close, seat them a little longer and she shhould be in the same hole.
It has a great reputation for deer and antelope so I would give it a try. Last year I believe one of our members from Alberta used his 280 on a deer with the 120 gr BT and was pleased with it.
I would be comfortable with that bullet from my .280 if deer and antelope were on the schedule. Gerry is likely correct in suggesting that you adjust your OAL for a slightly tighter group. That looks pretty good.
Yeah, it was 2012, Wyoming, that Stephen & Storm hunted mule deer & antelope with me. She used the 7mm-08, he had his .280, both with 120 gr Nosler Ballistic Tips.
They took four shots...
2 nice mule deer bucks, 2 nice pronghorn bucks. All good quick kills.
I was impressed! Oh, I was using a 115 gr Ballistic Tip @ 3120 fps from my .25-06, so they had bigger bullets!
The 7mm 120 gr BT is a very robust bullet. It uses the 140 gr BT jacket cut down to become a 120 gr bullet. This makes the jacket thicker and tougher than the other BT bullets offered by Nosler. The 120 gr BT is the ONLY bullet that shares a jacket.
The 120 gr BT will hold up to the velocities of the 280AI and 7mm Rem Mag and is a good choice for deer and antelope.
