Well I got my FedEx package this morning and went to work I prepped my brass yesterday in anticipation of them arriving. Loaded some up behind 57 58 59gr of 7828 SSC. Tested length and the lands was at 3.535" so I loaded everything at 3.490" or .045" off the lands. This was the same measurement that I'm set on the 160's that shoot so well. So I started shooting 57 2 in 1 out 58 same. 59 was outstanding and I felt really good about it. So I shot 2 more groups and was disappointed with it but I might have been too excited too shoot another really great group. Average velocity on the last 8 was 2860. I can't complain at all. I think I might to get a touch more outta it if I go to a slower powder like RL-25 or Retumbo.

The loaded rounds are 3 of 175's with 2 factory 280AI 150's between them. The other is a 175 seated next to one out of the case.

Certainly has potential at 59gns. I can understand the "human factor" in the group.

That's incredible. What a load Jake. That load will reach far and hit hard!

Jake,

Thats a darn good elk load. The high BC will make it a long range hard hitter.
Way to go buddy.

Does anyone have a chart to run a ballistic profile for that bullet? I don't have one to cover a .672 BC and I'd like to see how it compares to my 160 load. Got some more loaded up hopefully that wasn't a fluke.

Those ABLRs seem to be just what the Doctor ordered in the 284 calibre .
I can't wait until I get my hands on my 280AI 8).

Blessings,
Dan

Thanks guys here's a look if the numbers are all true.

Jake,

That 59gr group is awesome! What twist does your barrel have? I plan trying some 175 ABLRs in the 7mm LRM when it's finished.

That's pretty impressive. 1500ftlbs out to 800 yards.. Yeah, that'll do.. Man, what a hammer it'd be and I can't wait to hear of some more animals being taken with it. I bet they'll come out very nicely.

I just wonder what would happen after 1000 yards after it drops below the 1800fps expansion threshold. At 1000 I got 1200fpe. At a mile still 600fpe and still supersonic so it's very impressive.

Wow  That should make a outstanding long range hunter or target set up. I think I'll try some of those in my regular 280.

Shot them again the other day and found a couple things. I think my group was a fluke. Found a front action screw slightly loose and the barrel touching the stock so I will have to shoot again to see where I'm at. As I shortened them they got more consistent but the rifle was clearly throwing shots. When 3 are within an inch and the 4th is thrown 3 or 4 inches. Oh well I guess I'm glad I found the issue now and not later.

No it's not barrel is floated has oversized recoil lug in one of those Hart Accublock stocks. It is a tight fit. I imagine it just finally settled. There were two marks on the bottom of the barrel where the stock was rubbing. When I checked my sights before I took it hunting it did shoot a little higher than I recall it being sighted in for. But when it throws a shot 3 inches out you start to wonder and that's what I found.

Sounds like it might be binding or just rubbing enough to cause it to throw shots once it is heated up some.

Down load the "Shooter" App for your smart phone. I use it all the time, works very well, has everything you need to make first round hits and is easy to deploy in the field.

I should mention first round hits at long range if you use a tactical scope with a mil dot reticle and/or turrets or something with a ranging reticle.
