Three margarita's, a 1/2 hour hike at dusk and a first round hit with a 223 Remington at 600 yards with a duplex 5-15x42 Zeiss scope off a bipod prone at a 10 degree up hill angle? Ya baby...... that's 8 feet of drop with a 55 gr. Tipped Varmageddon!

I was even a little surprised, but when I pulled the trigger I knew it was going to find its mark. The sun had gone down 20 minutes ago and light was fading fast. Just not fast enough to put a bullet into the steel before heading in for the night.

Well, it's been 20+ years since I had a margarita, but that's good shooting.

Unless the steel target was the size of a barn!

I'll have a glass of wine or a beer at the end of the day, after the guns have been put away.

Regards, Guy

First off let me honestly say I don't ever condone drinking while operating anything; a vehicle, machinery, etc. or even when reloading ammunition. I have never shot a firearm while under the influence of alcohol in my entire life and I'll be 50 this month. Those three drinks where actually 2 1/2, and two hours prior to our evening hike after dinner each night.

It was used as a catch phrase in my headline to make it more interesting? But was still after drinking no matter how you look at it? Either way I would never handle a loaded firearm if I was even slightly intoxicated, I respect life and limb way too much for a mistake and/or just plain bad/dumb luck to even come into the equation. Most of the time I don't even hunt Big Game with a round in the chamber, (they're in the magazine) I'll wait until I see something to chamber a live round. Unless lets say I'm in thick brush with Brown Bears roaming around or when I was over in Africa with more then a few animals that like to bit back.

The steel target is 19" in diameter BTW, and Guy, if you ever want the best margarita you've ever had you'll have to try mine. You'll end up wanting more then just one!

Northern Idaho isn't that far of a drive - I manage to get through there two or three times a year, usually on my way to Montana.

First round hit on a 19" gong at 600 yards is pretty doggone good actually.

Heck yeah, with a 5.56 and a 55 grain bullet! That's darned good!

Thanks Scotty, I was all smiles to see the steel swing and then hear the report back! I think Lori was a little surprised? But then again she sees me do that shot all the time using my other rifles.

No worries. That's great shooting with any rifle and exceptional with that little bullet and cartridge.
