I have always shot three shot groups with my NEF single shot. Barnes 168gr TTSX seated .050" of the lands, NoslerCustom brass, 50grs ofIMR 4064, @ 2730FPS. I ALWAYS have two shots in one hole with the other off by maybe .75" either straight up or down. Great group but the flyer is killing me. Read other threads where told to seat a little deaper. If so by how much I was thinking .005". Why not longer?? Today had flyer 3" directly higher, but think I flinched it. Only thing different on that load was I used bullet and primer sealer.I clean my gun then shoot a fouling shot first then my group.

I would varry seating depth by .005. I've had that problem on two different rifles. One was solved going longer, the other shorter.

As is true with many monolithic bullets, the TTSX tends to shoot better with a long jump to the lands. Try seating in 0.020 increments, seating so there is a longer jump to the lands. Even 0.100 inches is not too much. Also, give plenty of time to cool between shots.

sorry about picture. Either it was huge and needed an expanded screen or it was only a thumbnail. Went with the thumbnail

I have shot 165 grain Nosler BT'S with Remington Brass and COL.3.300" in my NEF 30-06 and they shot fine. You may have to seat those bullets deeper.
I was using 59 gr. H4350 powder at 2938FPS.

A 30 cal. will "SLAM DUNK UM"

is that OAL messured with a comparator ????

barthowes,

When you have two shots touching and the third one out, seat the bullet deeper. Adjust your seating die in deeper 1/4 turn and reshoot. It might take several tries but your group will come in.

I use RCBS competition seating dies. What does 1/4 turn relate to in .001" increments??

I'll try seating .005" deeper on my next set of rounds and post update.. I know you said .008" but I have OCD and .005" sounds so much better.

Try loading 9 more rounds. Take 3 and seat 1/4 turn deeper on the seater.
Go another 1/4 turn and load 3 more and again 1/4 turn deeper for the final 3 rounds. Make sure you measure the OAL of each group for reference.
Keep them separated by color coding, plastic sandwich bags or some other reliable way and test the different seating depths. When you find a decent group, note the referenced COL and load up a few more. At this point you can determine how far off the lands you are and write it down in your loading guide for safe keeping.

And if you have an equilateral triangle you seat them 1/4 turn longer to bring them together.

That group looks great to me, I would call it a victory and go hunting. I can understand wanting the 3 shot clover leaf but a guy can burn lots of powder and bullets trying to shave the extra 1/4 or less of an inch off and for what? I have a 350 rem mag that recently shot a clover leaf with a new load I was testing. Do expect this every time from this stock remington rifle, powder lot # changes, bullets, and me? No, if it shoots any where close to where it did I'll be happier than a pig in chit.

Did you subtract the bullet diam from your outside to outside measurement?
