Took my new Vanguard S2 out to the range to get ready for the upcoming elk / deer hunt and was pleasantly surprised for the first time out.

Loads where H4350 and H4831 with the 180gr Partition.

Yes I will have to agree with Guy  54.5grs. of H4350 seems to be just fine. That 180gr. Partition you are shooting is no slouch  I am sure that what ever you hit will be going home with you (y).
Remember Shoot straight, have Fun & most of all be Safe!!

Blessings,
Dan

Yep, I'll take sub MOA and a little slower every time. Tiny groups like that first target of yours are too hard to lay off.

Looks great, are you .020" off the lands ?

Agreed, that first load is great! You'll do well with that load.

Thanks guys. I seated them to 3.310" as per the Nosler load data and seems to feed nice from the DBM.

I see that you have not listed a velocity so I guess you may not have a chronograph. Just for comparison, I get 2650 fps using 57.0 grs H4350 with a 180 gr Partition, 22" barrel Win Mod 70 XTR Featherweight, and it shoots lights out as well. You are probably moving around 2500-2550 fps with your load.

Brought the chrono with me today and the load averaged 2800fps. Speed and accuracy!

That'll do. Decent velocity and a tight SD. What's not to like? (y) Sharpen your knife.

Boomer, what is your barrel length ?

Nosler shows 2679 for your load.

RAY, it is 24". Better speed than I expected for sure.
I don't know if you have seen my target pics I posted ?
I'm going for the upper middle load and it would be nice if I was getting close to 2800 .
I think I'm gonna get the magnetospeed.

I shoot the van s2 3006 too .

Have you tried H4350 or just IMR4350? You should be able to get close to the same speeds. Start at 52.5 and work up to 56.5
I use a Lee deluxe die set with the FL and collet dies. I am using R-P brass and WLR primers. Initial load was FL sized, then I use the collet.

I haven't tried h4350 yet, although I do have a pound of it.
I want to shoot my 56 gr load again before I take it to the field.

Are you shooting your three shots back to back ?
Or do you let it cool in between ?

With my s2 , when the barrel begins to warm up I'll have one slightly move away from the group.

I have always had great results with IMR 4350 and H4350 @ 55.0 with Nosler 180gr PT in my 30-06

I going to try 4451 @ 55.0 see if it betters the other 2 powders with the same load.

I have always noticed that if a rifle has a tight bore it will shoot Partitions a bit faster than, say, a Sierra or Corlokt/Power Point. I believe its the solid Partition that creates more friction/higher pressure, so more velocity. That's why I always, for sure, start low with partitions, same as I do with mono bullets or heavy pure copper jacketed/lead core bullets like Hawks and Woodlieghs. The latter tend to "bump" up and create higher pressure. Each rifle is so different anyhow, its no biggy. A 30-06 180 at 2800 is just awesome. Figure you are in territory of the old 300 H&H mag! Good company to be in. But even at 2600, a 180 is still a real killer! Good luck to you pard.
