30-06 --Tried and True

Good looking rifle and groups. The 30-06 is one of my favorites, not much it can't do. How several of y'all feel about the 30-06 is how I feel about the 308. It's very boring to me, yet I know it's an excellent cartridge. I'll take a 30-06 any day though! I have one in an M70 & 15" Encore pistol. Both shoot great & have accounted for several deer & hogs not to mention a couple friends' first deer!

Handloading really brings the old classic into modern ballistics. I use a Savage Ultralite, 22 inch proof barrel, Lapua brass, Fed 210GM primers and Stabal 6.5 and use either a 172 grain Speer Impact @ 2900 fps or a Nosler ABLR 168 grain @2940 book loads and both very accurate. Trajectory wise, is the 6.5 Needsmore really a better choice??? running it through a ballistic app says no.
