In terms of OAL for 30-40 Krag cartridges, the only data I am finding is for the original US Army cartridge, at 3.10" for the 220gr. RN bullet, measured from base to tip.
I am loading Sierra 180gr. SP BT and figuring about 3.148" OAL as that has me a good distance from the lands.
My starting load is 45gr. IMR 4350 which may get around 2200 FPS MV.

Have you tried your 180 loaded round on the magazine box? Are you loading for a military style Krag?

I am shooting single shot, as the peep sight precludes the use of the cut-off switch. However, the loads do go through the mag with room to spare.

My 7th ed. Hornady book shows a maximum load of 42.6 gr. of IMR 4350 for a 180 gr. bullet. I load 43 gr. of AA 4350 with a 180 gr. RN for all of my Krags and my 95 Winchester. I seat to the cannelure.
