OK..
so, I know all about the debate on using match bullets for hunting..
Plenty of guys run the 175 SMKs with great success..

I have a wicked accurate load with the Nosler 175 match out of my 308 and have a lot of them..
I like to practice shooting out to 1k with them.

Has anyone here used these on deer or hogs?
If so, details please...

Thanks

I wouldn't recommend it I did a jug test on the 168CC out of a 308. I have it under the bullet test section. If I remember right 3 jugs but it did totally fragment. That was at 25 yards.

It never ceases to amaze me.
The people that make the bullets say they don't recomend them for use on game.
Why would anyone set themselves up for failure of this kind?

And don't we owe it to the animals we harvest to kill them as quickly and humanely as possible?
A bullet that explodes or fragments on impact may not kill quickly but rather cause a horrible wound that brings on a slow, tortourous death.

After my recent experience with Berger bullets, I'll stick with Accubonds and Partitions.

YMMV

For the record I do agree with you Howard.

The only differences I have seen were with the really big bore match bullets and again not always

I wouldn't consider using a match or target bullet for hunting game animals, ever. Even if the said match bullet shot into the same hole as far as the next county, I'd use a hunting bullet that shot with "good" accuracy EVERY time for hunting. I'm not interested in the exceptions or special circumstances. Instead of asking, "what's wrong with using them," ask, "what's right with using them."

I agree with the others. Target bullets are not game bullets.
If they worked great on game, we wouldn't need the AB, BT, ET and the PT.

The Nosler offerings all shoot very well, you just need to work up a load.

Just for the record
I have never tried match bullets on game and have always advocated hunting bullets for hunting.
It was simply a question, not intended to open up a can of worms, though I figured it would.

My 165 AB load hits to the exact same point of impact at 250 yards.
That is what I have ran for hunting out of lately.

We can all breathe easy now :)

ccoker,

The 165 gr AB is a great game bullet and it will serve you well.
The new 190 gr ALR might be another option for your 308. The ALR will be out in the spring.

Oh yeah
I have killed quite a mess of deer with the 165 AB
I know it works as expected.

175s just fight the wind a lot better at distance.

I usually run my Nosler 280 AI with 140 ABs hunting ..
Just playing with a new optic on my 308
