300 Blackout Supersonic Hunting Loads

I am just getting into the 300 blackout cartridge, and am looking for any data and experience people might have with supersonic hunting loads. I would prefer to use a 150 gr PT, but will go down the 125gr (AB) area if it means more reliable expansion.

Can't wait for the 300 Blackout load data from Nosler!
 
I just got one I mean won one a couple weeks ago :shock: its a Smith n Wesson m&p15. The bullets I've tried so far 125 BT and 125 sierra pro hunter and i was using h110 the best load so far was18.1grs and the pro hunter. I don't think your going to need the 125 AB the BT should be plenty stout with velocity's around 2200fps.there's a lot of info out there.

We have been using 16.9 grains of AA-1680 in our Ar's with the 150 B-tips.

Koa, at blackout velocities, I'd drop back to the 125gr BT. I don't really see why you would need a bonded or partitioned bullet at those velocities.

Russ, do you know what kind of velocities you've been getting? Most of the 150gr loads I've seen are too close to the 1800fps minimum for reliable expansion on the PTs for my comfort level. My goal would be to use a PT because it's worked well in the past for me, but a lot of people seem to be recommending the BTs.

30 or 40 deer dead shooting 125 ballistic tips and 18.5 grs of H110 over the past 13 years starting with a SSK built Contender barrel and still using my 300 Whisper dies to load the same load to shoot out my Noveske AR in 300 Blackout, I tried the 150's early on and killed two deer with it but like the 125's better. I like best shooting 220 gr Outlaw State bullets subsonic through my suppressor for stupid quiet deer smack down. The Outlaws expand at subsonic velocities and turn deer chest cavities to jello. Longest shot subsonic so far 185 yds. Broke the spine and fell at the shot. More than cool to hear a bullet impact that is way louder than the sound coming out the barrel.
 
Are you getting any expansion of the 125 grain ballistic tips at 2150 to 2200 fps? This is the load I am planning on using for deer hunting this year in Georgia. If someone has a picture of a recovered bullet I would very much appreciate see a picture of one.

BT's will expand just fine at those velocities.

Don't have a 300 Blackout but have shot the 125 Nosler ballistic tip in many different 30 cals and you will not have to worry about expansion problems until you get below 1000 fps or so impact velocity. Just keep it under 3000 fps impact down to around 1200 fps and it opens up really well and kills deer size game really well. I see Hornady has come out with a flat base 125 SST that has the interlock ring in it in 30 cal. made just for the 300 Blackout and 30 Remington AR. Midway has them in stock.
 
Martineta, what load are you using with the 220 grain bullet? I have a friend who wants to shoot 220's through his blackout and cannot find any loading data for them.
 
BRM, We have been using the 220 and 210's with 12 to 14 grains of AA-1680. Some of the guys guns liked the 12 grains and mine likes the 14 grains.

I'm glad I found this. I just acquired a 300 BLK and gearing up to reload for it. I'll be shooting deer and hogs mainly and was wanting to find some proven loads. Is H4198 a little to slow for this round? I have a bunch of that and some 2400 that I need to use?
 
Tpepper, I can not say about the powders you mentioned. We only used H-110 and AA-1680, and that was because that was all the data we could find and all the powders we had at the time.

H4198 might just work.

Thanks Dr Mike. I wonder if these powders would work with 110-150 grain bullets. I have a bunch of these grain bullets on hand and mainly plan on super-sonic shooting. I have a 222 Remington that I use the H4198 for which is why I have several pounds on hand. I need to get the program you use. That is pretty neat.
