300 H&H Magnum

Nobody here hunts on the Equator

Few rifles are made, so if you want one you have to have one made and get a long action to do so which costs more money. Ammo will cost more and is not easy to find on the shelve. you can get just as much or better with other calibers that are manufactured by normal manufacturers. Of course if money is no object, then none of this matters.

It isn't anymore expensive to load for than the 300WSM where I shop. The LA is part of the game.

Around this place, there is never any telling where we could end up hunting. You cannot beat the feeding with the sloped cartridges like the H&H and Mauser rounds.

I would love to have a Pre 64 like Tom's.. Pretty timeless hunting rifle with more than enough power to handle everything. Todays powders make it better yet.

The 338 is a better caliber anyway. If you do a build stay with the Mauser action you have, don't let anyone try to get you into some other action

Ralph, only Tom, Scotty, jim and Fotis are aware that your comments are directed at me and more important nobody cares.

Yes,my favorite two rifles are the 300 and 375 H & H and I make no apologizes for that. The 275 and 416 Rigby come in right behind my first two picks and i make no apologies for that either. There are a lot of guns out there that are probably better than the four I like and I am o.k. with that.

Your second bone that you like to pick with me is that the only real and true action is the Mauser 98. And I can not argue with you that the Mauser 98 is considered the holy grail of actions by many people. We have rifles with the Mauser action in them and they are in fact excellent actions. However, my husband prefers the Model 70, both Pre-64 and since 2007. To be more specific he prefers the pre 64 Model 70 in the years, 1946, 1947, and 1948 and will buy nothing after 1951 ( rifles, not actions )

but my god man, with a little work the 1917 Enfield has proven to be a fairly good action, especially coupled with the 300 H & H. At least Mr. Comfort liked it. Also Johanseen, Granite Mountain, Kimber, Dakota make good actions. Also, CZ550, Sako 85, Remington 798. and others. My question is why do you care what action we use, what caliber we shoot or how much we spend when making a rifle ?

You have made it very clear through the years that you dont feel we need the number of rifles that we have, or that we hunt to much, or spend to much on our rifles and hunts. All I can say is it has never cost you a dime.

If we were on a different forum this would have been a much shorter post, ending with "and the horse you rode in on", but I have no desire to offend the fine gentlemen on this forum. Good Day

ps. I forgot your other bone of contention. And again you are correct. In order for the model 70 to work with the 300 and 375, winchester had to rework the actions. And they did so and did it very well

Aleena, I hope this guy did not join this forum solely to harrass you and follow you from another forum but I guess after watching Obama in the third debate, nothing about human behavior surprises me anymore. He had best behave himself here as you have many fans and he doesn't.

I happen to be solidly with you on selection of and use of older calibers, having just bought a 9.3x74R in a Number One Ruger. I think that it is great that you have selected and have successfully used many of the older calibers around the world to take game. That was one of the things that I liked about you before I even knew anything about you.

I am however split between Mausers and Model 70 's having owed and still owning numbers of each. But you already know that the Model 70 was a purloined design with most of the Mauser features anyway. The only feature of the Model 70 would I would say is absolutely superior is gas control in the unlikely event of a blown primer. Oh and I like the safety better as well.

Aleena, you have lots of fans over here on this forum. If this person honestly believes that his showing up here and continued harassment of you will have much purchase here, he is sadly mistaken. The moderators here know you and respect your place as a lady of experience in the hunting fields and a good friend to many people here. You have my vote of confidence, as always,
Charlie

oldtrader3 said it best. the model 70 is just another Mauser. Reworked Mauser at best.

Let me ask you one simple question. How many children in a hospital or school or in an intercity housing development could you have helped with the 1000 s of dollars you spent just to shot a marco polo ?

I know that you and your husband are always first on the scene when a disaster accrues. I remember it was well publicized when you arrived in Japan to help organize disaster relieve the day after their disaster . not long after that you had a trip planned to Asia to hunt the Marco Polo, which you did. Did Japan pay for that, and if not and you did, then I ask again. wouldn't that money have been better spent helping children around the world. A 1000 dollar hunt to the Rockies for elk is understandable and acceptable. No one needs to spend the kind of money you spent to go on a sheep hunt.

I noted Ralph's screed in his first post. I chose not to address it as getting in a spitting match with a skunk only ensures that everyone shortly smells like the skunk. There are a number of people that hunt in hotter climates, and they appreciate any pointers that assist in controlling excessive pressure. The 375 requires no defense as it has proved itself over many years. Obviously, the major manufacturers believe this to be true as they have chambered this round multiple times. I like Mauser actions, but I have chosen to focus on Model 70 actions, and there are quite a few people on this forum that share this predilection to Model 70s. We may enjoy teasing one another about rifle choices, but generally we are agreed that we are blessed with a multiplicity of excellent actions in this day. Also, the tendency of those posting is to appreciate those with experience to share regardless of their gender. In fact, we are not merely pleased--but ecstatic--when ladies give us their insight and tell of their experiences in the field.

I apologize to mortis ( his thread ) and the forum.

Dr Mike is correct in his analysis as stated in his first sentence of the above post.

Good Day gentlemen

Aleena.....

Yes...it is my thread.... and Yes... Dr Mike has hit the nail on the head...

In true Marine Corps Fashion......

Sic'em Doll......he's all yours!!!!!!!!!!!

Mortis - love the idea of the .300 H&H, it's a classic cartridge. Came pretty close to buying a .300 H&H Number One to go along with my .375 H&H Number One - just because they're cool and I really enjoy hunting with them. Happen to have somehow come into possession of a few boxes of .300 H&H ammo too. Not sure how that happened as I've never owned one!

RalphW - good grief man - we don't get to dictate how others spend their money! You take care of your money, I'll take care of mine and Aleena can take care of hers, using it as she sees fit.

Dang...

Guy

I wouldn't hesitate to pick up a 300 H&H were I to see a rifle so chambered. I don't know that I would build one for myself, as I have several 300 calibre rifles at the moment.

+ 1.

All of us who work for a paycheck can decide how we want to spend it after we get it.

What rifle, what hunt, what action is determined by the person paying for it and I for one have no problem with that system. Socialism is of no interest to me. I will work to take care of myself and my family.

And for the record there are some here who are more knowledgeable about this than I am. Not that it is any of your business RalpW, but Jerry and Aleena very giving people.

Hey Ralph,

If that's truly your name, its obvious you are a whiny bitch that has class envy. The people you are attacking are nothing short of the most caring folks in the world who have not only earned what they have, but shared it as well. You remind me of more than a couple posters at Cabelas that had the same issues. All of you are worthless human beings.

How many times did you open your own wallet this year to help someone with less than you? Instead of buying that new Win/Rem/Bee how come you didn't give that money to your neighbor who lost his job? Instead of living in that 1500 sq/ft house, how come you don't down grade and give that mortgage payment to the local soup kitchen? Did you hunt this year? You probably shouldn't have because your wifes cousin lost his job and couldn't afford to go. You are being selfish if you ask me................... Get it yet? Doubtful

If you ever want to see how the generosity the ones you attack affect those that they help, look me up in Fort Collins CO anytime you wish. After we are done with the show and tell, perhaps you'd take the time to make a public apology here on this forum. The door is open and the ball is in your court.

If that is not acceptable to you, I hope you choke on your jealousy and disappear in an appropriate manner. I'm sure somewhere there is a goat sighing in relief..............

RalphW,

You've been listening to too many Obama speeches. Your redistributionist ideas are out of step with the American spirit. Rather than rejoicing in someone's charitable acts, you complain because you are unable to afford what they can afford. I trust you are generous with what you have. Surely, if you are, you will be pleased when others are generous with their wealth and with their time.

I have no doubt she is very generous, But it wasn't from money she made it came from her father, actually her grandfather and when they passed on she became very wealthy without raising a finger.. I actually feel sorry for her husband as he is still working, while she is flying around the world doing as she pleases. How does she choose who to help. We have ask for help several times only to be told our requests do not meet their criteria.

But lets get back to what this thread is about. The 300 H and H and the type of action one should use to build such a gun. The H & H is an old cartridge that is almost useless on an Elk or Moose hunt. The Mauser is a much better action than the pre 64, and of course the fact the pre 64 was derived from the Mauser proves my point. And there is one page of questions on the Africa sub forum here, mostly from people who had questions about going not about being there. And 57 pages on the Rifle forum.

Yes, she hunts in Asia, Africa, Europe, North America, South America, whatever, Nobody cares, because we all hunt in North america, and not even Alaska for most of us. But she wants to tell us about the equator, like hey look at me, just like Fotis killing that antelope with a Cannon --Hey look at me!!!! All of this while children in inner cities are starving, but can we get a contribution from Aleena---no way, she is too busy hunting while her husband works and her parents worked and her grandparents worked so she can hunt, hunt, hunt,

There is more to life than hunting

Wapitislayer270, I do know who you are and of course you like her, you are one of the lucky ones. Not everyone is so lucky I am afraid. So I don't need to come to your state to see you, I believe you. But I still feel we are just as deserving, but apparently not.

As for females hunting, they can hunt as long as they don't want to bring their hair stylist with them, And why do you think you don't have more females here, because they cant carry their own weight when in the mountains, say what you want, but that is the truth

Dr Mike I hope Obama gets reelected and then does not have to worry about reelection. I hope the Democrats get both houses and by a large margin. Then we can bring the fat cats, like Aleena down and redistribute the wealth to everyone. I have worked in education for a long time and I know that america will be better off after Obama gets into office. The first opportunity this country has had to ALL be equal in my lifetime

Point number one, you asked for something for whatever reason. Why would you do so? Unless you are living in a gutter I see no reason for such. Its obvious you can pay your bills as you sit here on a computer typing today.

I don't care where she got her money, nor does her husband. He works because he wants to. She works all over the world as is her right. Its her money, I could care less what she does as long as she is happy.

You are a very jealous person. It shows througout your post. You'd be better spent working for a better life so you could hunt out of the Lower 48 than whining here that you can't and they can. Get a life.

I never asked them for a damn thing. What they did give me though unsolicited is the mindset that you give and karma follows. I'm a working class smoe that pays my own way and never asks for handouts. Its been through their gift of a mindset that I've found true happiness by giving to others and not receiving. That's not saying things haven't come my way, but they were not things I asked for from them or anyone else.

You are also sexist in your rants about females hunting. Sickening. BTW, you've given yourself away. A long time educator with an Obama woody. Nothing more needs to be said and I'm sure I'm not the only one that has you pegged for who you truly are.

The .300H&H is a fine elk gun in a Mod 70 action. Hell its a fine cartridge in a Rem 700 for elk. So is a whole slew of other bigger and smaller cartridges. It all rides upon the hunter and not the equipment.

A week ago on Monday I passed a shot on a 350-370" class bull with a .300 in my hand. Was the Win Mag version but I can assure it wasn't the cartridges inability, but my own. 612 yards was the range.

RalphW,

You are not a happy man. It sounds as if you didn't get your way at some point, and you are still bitter. Tragically, your bitterness is clouding your ability to think. I could hope, though I fear it would be futile, that you did not carry that bitterness into the classroom.

I have worked in education for a long time and I know that america will be better off after Obama gets into office. The first opportunity this country has had to ALL be equal in my lifetime

Your anger--seemingly prevalent among educators during the past several decades and obviously carried into the classroom--has contaminated the past several generations of your Americans.

I would hope you do something to deal with your anger soon before it destroys you and before it destroys more young people who looked to you for instruction.

Ralph, the others have laid out alot better than I could ever put it into words, but I think you are a slimy turd. If you have the experience to tell us why you think the 300 H&H is no good for elk and moose, well, sir, you might get someone to listen, but right now, you are nothing but a bag of shit in my eyes for coming on here and raising a stink, in a topic, you didn't create, about something that you don't have experience with. Please, show us the moose and elk you have taken with your H&H and why they didn't work?

As for how J&A spend their money. Who gives a rats behind? It isn't your money they spent, and if they never gave a single dime to anybody, well, that is their choice. As far as I am concerned, you are wasting our time here.

I don't get why you would come here and raise heck about someone you don't like? Why not go someplace that you do like, with people like you. You sound like the type with your hand out and your workboots hidden under your bed. We have enough of them in our country.

I would probably drop your internet service and donate it to charity. That sounds like something that would help us all out.

Tell this young lady, she can't keep up...
