hello everyone. i'm newly registered to the forum but i've been reading your post for the last year or so. my wife bought me a reloading kit for christmas. i'd like to think it's out of love, but i bet its more related to the cost of factory 300 RUM ammo :lol: .
i reloaded my first rounds using 89 gr.to 94 gr. of rl-25 ( in 1 gr increment)behind a 168 gr. ttsx. to my good surprise every group (3 shots) went into 1"-1.5" a rare feat with factory ammo in my rifle.
coal was set at 3.600"
after that first try i set up the coal to 3.650" and used 93.5 gr. RL-25
93.5 to be 1 gr. below barnes recommended max. (since i'm new to this and dont have a mentor i want to stay on the safe side)
now i was hoping the first try was not a fluke, and that i would still get 1.25 average groups.
well first group .42"
second group .37"
and third group .52"
i even repeated that to impress my friends the next morning
with a .60" group shooting prone on bipods.
i'm really impressed with those results as was hoping for 1.5".
now i received my prochrono pal chronograph, and tried those loads
average for 10 shots is 3145 fps (deviation 23 fps)
the barnes data show that speed with 86 gr of rl 25.
i tought i'd have about 3275. now my rifle is remington 700 LLS LH.
with 26" barrel but with a muzzle break drilled in it.
can it be the cause of the lack of speed, or can it be the long coal
can firelapping help this?

and if there's nothing i can do about speed (except going overmax)
than that will be my hunting load. think that should kill, right. 8)

This is really the best site i have been part of and i have at least ventured to no less than a dozen.The folks here are great, they without a doubt will help you and unlike most forums your thread will not be hijacked by people just trying to BULL S**T you or piss you off. Great shooting by the way, remember no load is good if you don't do your part. I have been messing with the 300 RUM for about six months now and i have begun to believe that the key to this cartridge is pressure. I say that because it seems to like heavy pills with large quantities of powder and lots of bearing surface . the all copper construction and grooved shank of the TTSX will likely mean less pressure in your rifle and i think that is a good thing. Also with outstanding accuracy like you have i would not worry about velocity. I am not real familiar with the TTSX but i wonder what is the max impact velocity of the bullet before it is "unreliable"if you will. I try to get best accuracy first then if possible get velocity near max for reliability but never over. I have shot elk at 30 Yards so i don't need a load going 3400 fps for that kinda shot. I have been told that the Barnes bullets shoot great from some rifles and terrible from others but they may have earned a try from me. But right now and after the last several years of elk hunting the
