After a rough start in our rifle season, I was able to finish out a 300 RUM project and put it to the test. Opening morning shot at a nice buck chasing a doe and missed. (200 + yds)....Then missed two others that did not present ideal shot opportunities. Frustrated, I went home and finished loading for a new project rifle I was putting together. I used the load listed in Lyman's 49th edition for the 180 gr load except I used a Partition instead of the listed scirroco. I was able to sight it in with 3 shots and noted a great group. (guessing about 0.6 but didn't measure). I loaded ten shells and headed to my farm. I was in the stand for 20 minutes when I spotted super nice 10 pointer at 300yds. He was chasing does and stopped at 360yds for a brief moment. I launched the 180gr with confidence. BAMM...he was down.
Thanks nosler for a great performing bullet. I have reloaded for over 23 years and historically, I always heard of how"difficult" it is to achieve accuracy loads with partitions. I have loaded partitions in several of my rifles and have gotten submoa in all.
Happy hunting to all and be safe.
