After a few months of trying countless different loads with multiple bullets, I've finally found a load for the .300 RUM. Seating depth was key...
Tried 165 grain - Partitions, and TSX's, 180 grain - Partitions, Tipped TSX's, GameKings, & DeepCurls, and the 200 grain - AccuBond. Even tried a box of Nosler Trophy Grade Ammo with 180 grain Accubonds. Most would shoot around 1.5" at 100 yards and a few would occasionally get around 1", but I never seemed to be able to break the MOA barrier.
Ended up putting a B&C Alaskan Medalist stock on the SPS and junked the factory stock.
Settled on the following recipe: 180 Grain Barnes TSX, Federal Magnum Primers, Federal Cases, 90.0 grains of RL 25 and a COAL of 3.600". The load is now shooting around 3/4" MOA with three shot groups. Sighted in 1.5" high at 100 yards, and I'm set for Oregon's spring black bear season.
