Got a question for the 300 RUM guys. I just bought a Remington 700 CDL 26 in barrel 300 RUM and here is my question (I know all guns are different). What is the real world speed you are getting with 200gr partitions and or accubonds? 220 Partition speeds as well.

Bill

Rem 700 Sendero 26" barrel
200gr AB
Nosler brass
Fed 215M primer
3.68"
95gr Retumbo
3170 FPS

I have been up to 96gr and got 3220 FPS. Switched lots of Retumbo and had to drop down. Think you can get low 2900s with the 220s. Got some 220 PTs I want to try when I get time. Good luck Bill!

Thanks for the info. I'm just trying to get an idea if the 300 rum will be worth keeping since my 8mm is not to far off of the 300 rum speeds, well not enough to make a tinkers damn anyway. Don't even have the gun in hand and I'm thinking of selling it. This might even break Fotis's gun selling record

Spot on

Work up to either.

For the love of RUM! Don't do it Bill!!! Better selection of bullets, big cool factor, and you will kill a B&C bull elk if you have one

Don't want a B&C bull, ya ever see the size of their horns? Don't look like much fun to pack off the mountain to me  Yes bullet selection is tops in the 30 cal but the cool factor has to go to the 8mm just for the fact it's a cool round. :p

Never played with the 8mm Mag. Looks like a cool one for sure. One of my buddies just got a smoking deal on a Rem 700 8mm Mag. Just waiting for him to scope it up so we can go play.

I love my 8mm mag and to me part of the cool factor is in the fact that it's not real popular. I think he will like it.

There is no question which cartridge I'd take were I given the choice between a 300 RUM and the 8mmRM. I don't need a lot of .323 bullets at the velocities generated. Cool is not the word. It would generate extreme jealousy in everyone who saw it.

You could split the difference and shoot a .30-8mm Mag like I do :). It uses a lot less powder than a RUM and gives up less than 100fps. Out of my 27.5" barrel it shoots 210vld's at 3100fps. Kind of like a Weatherby without the free bore.

Bill,

Without doubt, the 8mm Rem Mag has a lot of cool factor.

The 300 RUM offers a lot of performance with high BC bullets. A 200 gr PT has a BC of .481 and the 200 gr AB has a BC of .588. Both bullets would be long range elk hammers.
If it is a shooter, keep it.

Brian's 300 RUM is a nice shooter for sure. The oddball's are way more fun to shoot and load for. It is funny everyone always talks about bullet selection for the 8mm's and how few there are.. I wonder how many guys actually try different bullets once they find a hunting load? Same for the RUM guys. 30 cals have tons of bullets, but you don't see many experimenting with different bullets once they find a good one.

Or you could just sale both of those and step up to the 338 RUM or Lapua and trump both of them!! 225AB @ a .550 BC or 250 @ .575 or 300 @ .720.

I had a 338 Lapua, 338-378 and a 338 O'Bryan. I like my 8mm.

Very good point Scotty. The 8mm has enough "good" hunting bullets to suit all my needs and then some.

Start asking Nosler for an 8mm 225AB I'm sure that would be a hit!

I think there is a crowd of folks that would be pretty happy with them!

I thought the general scuttlebutt was that Nosler was waiting for Scotty to buy a 325WSM before making the .323 220 grain AB.
