Thinking about buying the SPS in the 300rum but I need to know if it worth it herd it can be a headake
is it a shooter
is it easy to hand load
anything bad about it

If you want a RUM and dont want a brake, I advise buying a woodstocked one. The synthetic dont have enough weight there. Trust me, headache. I didn't have a brake on my RUM and I got the laminated/stainless version. It help soaked the recoil up quite a bit. I put over 1200 rounds in 2 years in my rifle so have a little data and experience with it. My experience was very good. Very accurate caliber and I would buy another one. They hit with some authority, thats for sure. My favorite bullets were 200g AB's, 210g Berger VLD's, and 220g SMK's. My rifle preferred H-1000 for powder, giving .5-.75 MOA out to 800 yards. My rifle shot 3650 with 150g's bullets, 3400 with 180's, 3225 with 200's, 3000 with 210-220's. If you want something that takes almost a pound of powder every time you want to load 50 shells then this is your caliber. If you only want about 1000 rds of tip top accuracy, this is your caliber. If you dont want to be kicked with about 45lbs of kick, this is not the caliber for you. Good luck with your decision.

I have been shooting a buddies Remington SPS in 300RUM and find it to be a very good gun. As opposed to the previous poster, I prefer the fiberglass stock. Yes, the wood stocks are heavier and help in the recoil department, but the SPS stock feels very good, handles well and will be better in bad weather.

The only problems we have had in reloading the 300RUM cartridge have been minor. First of all, my buddies Lee Auto-Prime would not work, the shell is too big to fit. We wound up with a new RCBS priming tool and it works fine. Secondly, his Lyman Orange Crusher press is not large enough to allow him to set the bullet on top of the case when seating the bullets. He has to put the bullet up into the die then bring it down on top of the case to seat bullets.

Then he wound up having to buy a new cleaning rod for the darned thing, with that long action and 26 inch barrel his old one was not long enough.

All minor stuff! The performance is very impressive. He is shooting 180 Accubonds at 3400 fps using RL 25 powder. The last group I shot with it last weekend was 0.69 inches. And yes, the recoil is there, but it is not unreasonable. I can shoot 15 or 20 shells from the bench and not be bothered by it.

All in all, I think that the stainless SPS in 300RUM is a great gun for the money.

I have an SPS and love it for the money, never had any truoble with it or reloading for it, only thing was I had to adjust my trigger down about 7 lbs.

I use a lyman orange crusher and don't have that problem.

SPS is a nice rifle although I do perfer the LSS version.
The 300 RUM is a fantastic round for anything. Accuracy is excellent with the right load and recoil is not unreasonable.
I love my 338 RUM.

I dont have any experience with the SPS, but I do have a 300RUM in the LSS which is a very nice shooter and very weather resistant!
In fact, it is going with me to look for elk steaks in the snow and rain tomorrow!!

I have a 300RUM in a Sendero model. I think it is an awesome round..load it light to play with.....load it heavy for anything you want.
RL-25 & 180gr AB's are very accurate in mine.....it didn't like that H-1000.
I'm good for about 15rounds off the bench before it's time to put it away...recoil is heavy for what I like, but its been worth it !

Hopefully your SPS will be accurate. Some are so are not. This is to be expected with most modestly pricede factory guns. 2506 man is right though. It is light and will rock you. If this is not a concern go for it.
