I will be loading for the 300 savage soon. A good friend is tired of paying $40 a box for ammo.

Any pet loads out there?

I am sure this topic has come up before. Is there a good way to search previous threads by topic or caliber? There are now thousands of posts on this forum - if there was a convenient way to search these by caliber - I wouldn't have to ask the same questions which I am sure others have asked.

Thanks.

Here is my pet load for my 300 savage. WLR primer, IMR4895 between 40.5 and 41.5 grains, 150 interlock or 150 spcl with a COL 2.491. This load in my rifle shoots lights out every time.

And no there is not a good way to search for loads, tried to get something in place to do as such but Nosler shot it down.

I shoot RL-15 and the 180gr Speer Mag-Tip. Since this rifle is a 200yd and under rifle, I figured the 80fps or so that I lost by going to the 180gr bullets was well worth it.

Just about any 150-180gr bullet and 4064, 4895, RL-15 will give you good results.

Don't remember the charge weight, been a long time since I loaded any but my all time favorite load in this calibre came from the Lyman 47th manual using Rem case, Rem 9 1/2, Win 748 and a speer 150gr mag tip. Sub-moa at 100 from my buddies Rem 722 and minute of soda can with my M99 irons at 50 yards. Hits whitetails like Thor's hammer and a good economical bullet to shoot.

I went to the mag-tip due to feeding issues with pointy spitzers in my M99. They quit making them, but you can still find them in-stock I think. Otherwise a Nos 150 part. or speer 150 hot-cor would kick-butt in this rifle as well on deer sized game. Think it'd be good elk medicine with a 165 part or 170 "30-30" Partition.

Also had good luck with a Hor 165 over IMR 4064 but I like the 150s better in the 99. They're not built to dissipate recoil like a boltgun!
