I just bought a weatherby vanguard in 300 weatherby mag off of one of my friends. It shoots great with factory ammo so I'm sure I can find a good load for it. My question is what do you guys like to use in your 300 bee? I'm looking at the AccuBond or e-tip, but I'm open to all opinions. Also share you experiences in putting down big game with this caliber. Thanks up front.

Congratulations on your new 300 Wby Mag. Post a picture of your rig.
What weight bullet are you looking at to load?

Well I was thinking a 180 grain bullet should do the trick for anything in North America, but I shoot those outta my '06. Maybe 200 grainers would be nice. Your thoughts?

While 180 grain bullets are more than adequate, the 300 Wby really shines with 200 grain bullets. It provides a real smack-down.

DrMike is correct, the 180 gr will cover everything but the 200 gr loads are hammers.
The 200 gr AB would be an excellent choice.

I have a buddy that shoots the 300 WM for white tail deer. He started using the 150 gr Hornady SST a few years ago. Talk about hammering deer. He has not had a single deer that he has shot with them even take a step, There is nothing left of the front shoulders but because he is handicapped from 5 back surgeries from wounds received in the USMC there is no tracking for him to do. Years ago, before his wounds, he took a large bull elk with one shot with this rifle using 180 Nosler partitions.

I have another friend that uses the 165 Nosler BT for WT deer over bean fields in NC. It shoots very flat and works really well. As a side note it is something to hear in the late evening a few minutes before dark when the air is more moist and dense lower to the ground.
SHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH SMACK BOOM of a 30 cal bullet going through the air waaaaaaaaaay across a bean field then hear it SMACK as it hits a deer then you hear the BOOM of the gun going off. I hear this often from my hunting stand coming from my buddies stand.

I like to eat my deer and elk so I use the 180 Partition for hunting and whatever else I have laying around to practice with.
I have several hundred 180 grain bullets but if I was starting over again I would use the 200 grain. I am a believer in the theory that you can't use to much bullet. A well place PT will not hurt the meat, and an ill placed one gives you a chance. Just my .02 after 50 years of Noslers.

I have kinda swayed toward the 200gr bullets for my 300 mags. I have used the 200gr SGK in in my 300WM with RL22 quite alot and it is a decent bullet. I have a bunch of loads made up right now with the same powder (RL22) and 200gr PT's. As long as those work, I will be done with load work forever with this rifle. It shoots the 200's into the 2900 range and that is adequately flat for me.

I have a 300WBY also, have not loaded for it yet, but I may try the 200gr AB if I can get my hands on some. If not, it will probably get 200gr PT's also. I think the WBY or WM with 200gr PT's is just about the most ideal set up for alot of big game. Flat shooting and very deep penetrating. Plus, the recoil is fairly moderate out of my rifles so they tend to shoot well.

If you have IMR powders on hand, try IMR7828, I remember Fotis posting some loads that were used and the 7828 did really well in alot of the big WBY cartridges.

I 2nd Jim's comments, show us some pictures! Scotty

Thanks guys. I may try some 200grain AB's. I have enough deer rifles that I don't need to load this thing for deer. I figured maybe a heavy bullet for an elk trip!

The 180 grain is the best all around bullet for the 300 Weatherby. I recently switched to Reloader 25 for all my 300 Bee loads, replacing the venerable IMR 7828. I found this powder to be much more stable at any temperature range and in return, gain a few more fps. Accuracy is top notch.

Hmm,,,,,,,,, I may sound like a broken record at times, but my choice would be the 200 gr. Partition.
Yeah,,I say you were right in the first place, with steal. I'd almost feel quilty, and like a thief,,,,,LOL
Almost ,but not quite.
Dang good buy there!!!!!!!

SE,

Very nice rig buddy. You got yourself a real deal, the scope alone is $300!
Looking forward to your load development and range reports.
BTW, the 200 gr AB will work just fine on deer. It will punch a nice hole through the deer without excesive tissue damage. Now you don't have to wait for that elk hunt to give it a try.

Nice grab SE. Those Vanguards are shooters! Mine is a Vanguard Sage Country, so it is about the same rifle. Can't wait to get my hands on it. Headed to NC this week, so I should be able to pick it up. Scotty

Now that is a steal. Still working on mine, so far it likes 180 AccuBond with 7828ssc pushing it. Just loaded 200 partitions with RL25. Hope to make it to the range today.

I'll say you got a deal. Super buy. Congratulations. Now, to hear how it shoots.

I sighted it in for my buddy last year using weatherby brand 165grainers. It shot about an inch at 100 yards. I think I can probably shrink that group. I would also like to get a nice walnut or laminate stock (I hate plain black synthetics) and give it a full free float bedding job. I plan on taking off the leupy and adding a vortex viper 4-12.
