300 Weatherby mag

That will be sweet with a nice stock on it. I haven't ever heard of anybody getting a slouch in the shooter department with the Vanguards. Alot of rifle for the money. A good stock would really dress it up alot. Scotty

300 bones? I'll say you got a deal. The last thing I need is another .300 Weatherby, but I would NOT walk away from that!

Ok, so far I think I'm gonna try 200gr AB's, 180gr. Barnes TTSX's, Reloader 25, IMR 4350.
Any other powders you guys think I should try? Also one recipe I found used mag primers. what do you guys use?

I would give RL22 a try. It seems like another great powder for the 300WBY. I am thinking it will be the first powder I will try when get my hands on the rifle. I will use mag primers for it. It is a LONG case and needs a little extra I believe for those large charges of powder. Scotty

Yeah that's what I was thinking too.

Because of the long powder column and the volume of powder that must be ignited, use only magnum primers in your 300 Wby. Federal 215 primers were developed specifically for that cartridge.

Steal, deal whatever its yours now and a great purchase. You will enjoy it. !!!!!

one of my favorite guns. I use 180 gr Partitions, and ABs. Federal mag primers and imr 7828, my guns like hot loads, so work up carefully. Also, I push the cartridge size out to where the limit is the magazine... lots of freebore in most wbys.

H1000 and use mag primers

Well today I got a set of redding dies, box of 180gr AB's, and a quarter pound of RE-25. I'm gonna try IMR 4350 as well with Fed 215 primers. If I can't get anything to shoot I will try other powder/bullet combos.

Great deal on a great gun. The 300 Weatherby is still my favorite caliber for a lot of reasons. Accuracy and long range power are the two main ones. I'll never be without one.

Skip the 4350 and go with Reloader 25. Start at 85 grain for the 180 and hold on tight.

Just picked up my 300 Weatherby this evening. Can't wait to see how it shoots. Scotty

I couldn't believe how much powder these things eat up! I usually buy powder by the quarter pound when I'm testing something new. With this caliber a qp lasted for 17 rounds! I can see why they need a mag primer. The load book should just say fill up the case and seat bullet!

Try loading for the RUM or for a Lazzeroni. They sell powder in kegs for a reason.

You can Google up an article by John Barsness from "24 hour Campfire" done in October 2008 about the 300 Weatherby. He uses a Vanguard in his load workups and is a great read!
