Here is the 300 Weathery Mag in my Vanguard. I used Leupold Bases and PRW Low rings. The scope is a Minox 3x9-40mm (Thanks Joel). Seems like a rock solid set up, and certainly points really well. Right off the bat, the scope is very clear looking around outside with it. I will tell you more once I get it to the range. I do really like the power adjustment ring and the #4 reticle is pretty neat. Never used one before, so I guess some range time will tell. Scotty

Very nice rig Scotty.
Looking forward to your range report.
What bullet do you plan on using?

Good looking setup, Scotty. I do like Minox scopes, and I like the No. 4 reticle. Suddenly, I'm getting a number of Weatherbys (primarily 300s) for loading. Must be the season.

That rifle looks good with that scope...I will be interested to see whether it tracks properly as well. Give us a full report if you make it out tomorrow (with pictures :p ).

Thanks fellers. It does look pretty darned nice, if I do say so myself!

I have a bunch of 200gr PT's loaded up with RL22, ready for the range. Plus, I have a couple of older 300WBY rounds to get the scope zeroed with. I really want the 200gr PT's to shoot. If they those don't (not likely) I have some 200gr AB's that Woodycreek gave me to try out.

I think the Vanguards are a steal most of the time. Most of them will shoot much better than their 1.5MOA guarantee and their actions seem very nicely put together.

Should be a good time at the range. Can't wait to open this 300 up some. I do think a trigger is in the works. They are not the best things I have ever felt, but depending on how it shoots, I may put a Timney in it eventually. Scotty

That is a nice looking Weatherby for sure. I have always wondered about shooting a 300 bee. How much more than a 7mm RM do they kick? Or better yet a 30-06 those two feel the same to me.

Corey

This rifle has pillars David. I have no idea what model it is. I thought they were Sage Country's but they aren't. Kinda anxious to see how it shoots. Looking forward to working with the 300wby a little. Pretty sweet looking cartridge. Scotty

Have to agree that it is a nice looking cartridge! It's kind of the first Ultra-mag in many ways and still even the 300 Ultra mag and some of those don't top it in the velocity department by very much if at all!

Corey I can't tell the difference from my 300 Win Mag and any 300Wby I've ever fired. I think the Weatherby style stock is pretty good for handling recoil. I will let you know how this one acts after the range though.

David I passed up an M70 Sporter 300 Weatherby just like my 264 while I was in NH. I really wished I would have gotten it but I think this rifle will be okay ifn it shoots at all. That 300 Weatherby was the top of the heap for awhile. Those RUMs are some monsters though. I think Brian runs 200gr AB's pretty close to 3200 out of his Sendero. I think I could run 3200 with 180's, maybe? Scotty

That Vanguard really looks sharp with that Minox on it! Glad that you finally got them together.

That is a sharp lookin' shootin' iron. That could be my favorite Weatherby stock ever.

Well, outside of the Classicmark.

Like others have stated that is a fine looking rifle Scotty. Any idea of it's weight?

Bill, I am not sure, maybe 9lbs? I don't really have a great way to measure it. It doesn't feel as heavy as my Ruger 300WM Laminated. I would guess somewhere in the 8-9lb range. Scotty

I would like to think I'm getting smarter by not wanting to pack a heavy rifle up and down the hills but lets be honest I must just be getting older. I have been recently kicking around the idea of a light weight 300 weatherby and did not know what a Vangard weighed.

Bill I'm not old at least I don't think I am but I don't like humping heavy rifles since there really isn't much need for them in the way I hunt and shoot. The vanguard feels pretty nimble in my hands and probably will be just right for the recoil of the 300. I think one of those Weatherby Ultralights in 300Wby with a Vais would be an excellent elk rifle. I only shoot out to 500 yards so I'm not totally concerned with longer ranges. A B&C Medalist or similar stock would probably drop a little more weight too. If I can figure out how to weigh this think I will get it on a scale. Scotty

Yes an ultralight 300 wby would be the cats azz for packing up/down the hills and for flat out killing elk. Might be the way I will go in the near furture.

Hard to beat the 300's or the 338WM for portability. I like the BIG 338's but I think you step up a class in rifle weight also. Scotty
