Since I've got a new .300WM on order, I'm trying to plan some new loads.

I've long been happy with the 300WSM firing the 180AB and I'm thinking the 300WM might be fantastic with the 200gr bullets like the AB and PT (provided I can source some). I've got a good selection of powders like Hybrid 100V, H4350, H4831, H4895, RL17, IMR4451 and IMR4955. Nothing on hand really slow burning like H1000 or RL26.

Anyone have any loads for 200gr and up bullets or any cautionary advice that would make me want to stick to the 180s?

I figure if I want to break in the rifle in the spring, I'd better start sourcing and loading now.

I run the 200 gr. Speer Hot Core in all my .300 Win. Mags. The powder I use is WMR (Winchester Magnum Rifle) which was discontinued about 10 or so years ago. I found a store that had five 8 pound cans of the stuff and made arrangement with a friend in the LA area to pick them up. I met him in Quartzite AZ and paid him his money and gave him one of the cans. I found the powder works great in the .270 Win., 280 Rem. and .300 Win. Does not work in the 30-06. All I can add is I've shot one elk with that 200 gr. load at 530 yards and the elk died.
I'll use a 180 gr. bullet in the 30-06 but prefer the 200s in the Magnum.

I would give the hammer hunter bullets. They have a 180, 189, and 196 that would make an excellent Alaska bullet. If my havak didn’t shoot the 200gr ELDX Hornady precision hunter factory ammo so well, I would have already been playing with these bullets.

It’s hard to change it up when you have factory ammo that’s shooting 1/2moa

I’ve always felt that a 200 grain AB or PT is the best all around bullet for the .300 Magnums. You can get 2850-2900 fps easily and it packs a punch!

Hodgeman, my FAVORITE load for 300 Win is H4350 and the 200 grain AccuBond. I have used 25, 22, 26, H4831, and a few others like H1000 as well, but H4350 with the 200 grain AccuBond routinely gets 2950 or better and the accuracy is through the roof awesome. I know it probably shouldn't be as good as it is, but the last rifle my brother had built was a 1-8 Krieger'ed 300 Win on a SAAMI chamber and the accuracy load the builder proofed the rifle with was H4350 and 200 AB's. He sent a 10 shot target that went under an inch. We didn't even mess around with anything else. Loaded up a few charges in our ADG brass, found the speed node and zeroed the gun. It just works really well.

I was able to source some 210 ABLRs from SPS. Hopefully I can get these to shoot. My prior results with ABLRs in a 6.5 were a little hit or miss (pun intended).

Scotty, thanks for the information on the 200 grain and H4350. As you know I moved the throat out to 3.620 for the 180 Grain Federal Trophy bonded. They shoot very well with RL26. I have had the bug for a while now to shoot 200's out of my Ridgeline. With the extended throat I should be able to get some good velocity. Good winter project.

I've done some work with the 7MM 150 gr. ABLR bullets. So far they're been a bit of a disaster. I've tried them in three different 7x57 rifles plus in a .280 Rem. and the holes in the target look like a scattering of quail. :( I'd figured they would be great in the 7x57s and OK in the .280 based on comments from my guides while on elk hunts. One said they worked great way out yonder but that under 100 to 150 yards they could be quite fragile depending on the velocity of the cartridge. This from my guide and a couple others who were at the meat packing plant at the same time I was.

I'll try working with them later on when it warms up a bit. I prefer working up loads to max level when it's a lot warmed than what it is now.

SPS came through again... in addition to the 210 ABLRs, they had 100 180gr Partitions.

Pretty sure between the two and my current stock of E Tips and ABs...something will work.

200 grain AccuBond with I believe 77g of H1000 is 3/4 MOA for me. it is a bit hard on deer but dynamite on elk. I get about 2850 fps. with a 24 inch barrel.
