Well I decided to have a .308 cal built and settled on the .300 win mag due to a couple reason. 1st is brass availability. I had a 28 nosler built a few years ago and getting brass is a huge pita. I bought 100 a few days ago and that should hold me over for a bit. Ordered a stiller tac 300 action, Huber Concepts 2 stage trigger, hart m24 contour at 26 in with a 1 in 10 twist rate. I have the action and trigger here and barrel will be here Friday. Also a manners elite stock in a midnight color pattern with an adjustable check piece, that’s paid for and being made and still a few weeks out. For glass going with the nightforce 5.5x22x56 with the moar reticle, paid for and waiting for that to be shipped. It will be a bdl style with floor plate. Bottom metal, barrel n action cerakoted a gray color to match the stock. I’ll post a few pictures when I get home from work when the barrel gets here and will post pictures of the progress. Stay tuned....

Nice. Are you doing the work yourself?

Can’t go wrong with Hart. I sent one of their barrels to them to re-contour. It was a truck axle that I wanted to change to a Remington standard sporter. They said no problem, send it. I got a call from one of the owners about two weeks later telling me that he made a mistake entering numbers on the CNC machine and it came out way wrong. Told me that he owed me a barrel. About a week later a brand new one showed up.

That’s customer service! No lies or BS, just own it and fix it. Oh, and the new one is a great shooter.

No I use smith’s custom guns from warren, pa he does all my work. I’ve dealt with hart before, awesome folks. I ordered it on 9-20 and it will be here tomorrow, thier web site says 5-9weeks but it wasn’t that long.

Looks like good "stuff."

Hard to go wrong with the 300 Win mag for long range work. It's a proven cartridge. Load data is readily available. Some outstanding factory ammo is even available for it. One of the most popular elk rifle cartridges.

Looking forward to seeing your completed rifle, some range tests, and hopefully a photo with a big ol' buck or bull eventually!

That’s not too bad of a wait. I recently got a McMillan Hunters Edge, it was 6 months. The Game Scout before that was 8 weeks.

I have some loaded with 168gr ballistic tips with some IMR 7828ssc. I have 3 each loaded from starting load to max at .5 grain increments. It will be used for Pennsylvania whitetail.

Oh and went with a carbon 6 barrel. So that Hart pictured iis in the classified btw.

This looks like a great build. Very interested in this I am assembling the pieces for a model 70 build. Trying to decide on caliber got it narrowed to 300 wm and 308 Norma leaning wm because of ammo. Looks like 308 Norma brass available.

Which Model 70 action variant are you using?

That's going to be a sweet build for sure. As Guy mentioned, the 300 Win Mag is a very good long range cartridge.

Nice. I put down some stuff in another thread about using those. This is stuff you probably know but someone might find it useful. I’ve learned it the hard way[emoji1]
