.300 Win.Mag. - Looking for a starting point on handloads...

Hi Folks,

does anyone have some loads for this caliber, using Viht.N160, IMR4350 or H1000 powders, with 165 and 180 grs. bullets ?

OAL is "unlimited", as rounds won't be going through the mag....but single fed.

Nolser lists all of those powders in their on-line load data. Were you looking for something different? Optimal OAL is going to be dependent on your rifle, so the somewhat generic data Nosler offers isn't a bad place to start.

H1000 is even listed as the "most accurate" for the 180's.

70-grs IMR4350 and 180's, 79-grs H1000 and 180's. I have shot both in mine and the 4350 gave great accuracy and speed. This is from the Nosler manual with WLRM primers.

I use IMR 4350 for both 165 and 180 grain bullets. Been using it for almost 20 years in the .300 Win. Mag. with no complaints.
For a starting point I use the lightest load listed in the book. But for hunting I use the max. load. If I'm using the .300 then I want all the speed and power I can get. Assuming that load pressure tests OK in your rifle, and you can get adequate accuracy.

RL22 has been excellent in a few 300's for me. Seeing how well H1000 works in the Mashburn I'd really think it should excel.

I used to use 68 grains of IMR4350 with the Fed 215M primer and the 180 grain Nosler Partition. I was getting right at 2920 fps from my 24" barrel and it was quite accurate. I shot one cow elk and a few deer with that load over the years. I sold the gun a few years ago as at the time I wanted something different.

I also used R22 but with 76gr with both the older Barnes 180 XBT and the Nosler 180BT. It's hard "not" to find an accuracy load for the old 300 Win!

75.0 grs RL22 and a 180 gr AB, BT or PT has produced sub MOA in 3 different 300 Win Mags.

Just got a can of H1000 and I am gonna try the BT180.

What jump does it work best with this bullet ?

I have no limits with max. COAL.

I have found a couple of loads that seem to work quite well, but need more testing...

Used H1000 but only with 230 OTM......
