I got roped into loadin for my dad's 300 winnie. I've got 180gr AB's, win brass, and RL 22. Anyone have a pet load for this combo or a close starting point?

Start at 70 gr work up to 75/76 gr of rl22.

3000-3100 fps pending on rifle.

+2 to what Pop said. I have loaded 75.0 grs RL22 with the 180 gr PT for 3 different 300 Win Mags, they all shot sub MOA.

Rem ADL 77 gr. RL 22 3046 FPS. 1" +-. This is the optimum load for velocity and accuracy. "OF COURSE " start up from 71.5 gr.
This has been the big hitter for 3 rifles I've loaded for and the accuracy is probably better than stated but the shooters were hunters not target geeks!
This load is 1.5 grs above Noslers MAX but there have been no pressure signes in the rifles stated. It's a good solid load that will "work good and last a long time"(military jargon)!!

Thanks for all the help guys! That saves me a bit of time which allows me to spend more time working up what will hopefully be a good tack drivin load for my new toy!

question for JD/Pop, a friend of mine wants me to load some .300WM ammo for his model 700 using a 180 grain Partition. I found the right headspacing for his cartridges but also noted that Remington apparently has changed things somewhat. I used to own a 700 sendero and found the magazine box a bit short and the rifling leade a bit short. I subsequently had the leade in my rifle extended. His 700 which is 3-4 years old has a 3.6 magazine box and I can move the oal out to 3.550 before striking the rifling. I take it this is now a normal condition for 700's.. Understandably this is a good idea but have you noticed this condition?

I haven't noticed this but then again I haven't loaded for a 300 Win Mag in a few years.

I would suggest loading about .025" off the lands. Due to the long case/short neck, you may seating the bullet into the ogive. You may want to consider the 180 gr Protected Point Partition bullet. It has a flat point and was actually designed for the 300 Win Mag.
