My son in law got a 300 WM ths past summer. He got a mule deer this past Oct and is now directing attention to bullets for Antelope and white tail deer. We hope to go on an Anteope hunt this fall. He is considering the followig bullets:
150 gr AB
150 gr BT
165 gr AB
165 gr BT
165 gr Sierra GK BT
What do you recommend &/or what has been your experiences and preferences for the 300 WM?

I hope to have my 260 ready for the Antelope hunt. It has been on order since July 1, 2007.

Thanks for any and all input.

I would say the 165AB would be awesome out of the 300WM. Flat trajectory and heavy enough to buck potential winds.

Of the bullets listed, I would pick the 165 gr AB. If it were me, I would go with the 180 gr AB as it will buck the wind better than the bullets listed.

I don't have any experience what so ever with the WSM, but +1 for the 165 / 168 grain bullets.

I hear ya about the .260..... personally can't think of much better cartridge for the prarie goats.......130gr A-bond ??

Powerstroke, he mentioned a 300 Win Mag, not a WSM. So we'd like to hear your thoughts on bullet selection for the WM if it's different than the 165/168 bullets.

I too would try the 165 ab and you can get some 2nds right now at shooters proshop

on another note what 260 are you trying to get

I shoot 180 Partitions at everything from my M70 .300 WinMag.

Of the bullets listed, I would go with the heaviest AccuBond, but would still rather use a 180.

One of these days I'm going to try some E-Tips in my rifle. Don't know how well they would open up on an Antelope, though.

Richracer......

Ah... dang it, tiz what happens when you don't pay attention to detail I guess....

Yes, 180 grainers then....... and I'll preface this and hopefully learn something at the same time.
Isn't there something about the heavier bullets protruding too far into the wsm cases ??? would that 180gr bullet not be on that boarder line list ?

A 180 grain AB works just fine in the 300 WM. I prefer 180 grain bullets in my WSM, but almost all the loads I have developed for others have been 165s. Again, most of the development work I have done for the 300 WM has been with 165/168 grain bullets. However, I would think that the 180 grain would be a better choice. Either will work well.

My brother-in-law has a 300 WSM. Here in Maryland he's shot 8 deer
in last two years, several with 150 gr BT bullets. He's also has a 270
shoots 130 BT bullets. His defination of blood trail is about 18". from where they stand to the ground. Never had one move.

The last doe he shot in the front quarter... Butcher said wasn't enough left on front quarter to grind up for deer burgers.. :)

I'll opt for a heavier bullet. As a matter of fact, I feed my 300 Winny with 180 grainer exclusively. Ballistic wise, it beats the smaller bullet on performance downrange and less meat damage.

Yes, use a 180gr Ballistic tip and you will have one fast kill on an antelope and reach out there. At long ranges the BT will still work to give you a quick kill and the 180gr wait will hold together enough up close to still give a quick and decisive kill.

If it was me, 180g NBT hands down. I've loaded this bullet for years for several guys and they use it for everything from antelope to elk with no problems. Load it with 75g RL-22, good for at least 3000fps, sometimes 3100fps. Awesome load out of the 300 WM

Dont need an AB for deer and antelope.
