I just received a new Browning A-Bolt in .300 WSM and am hoping to develop a load quickly prior to our upcoming elk season. I have the following bullets and primers on hand, and am hoping to hit the range this weekend. Any suggested pet loads would be much appreciated.

180 Grain - Partitions, Barnes TSXs, Speer DeepCurls, Sierra SPBTs
165 Grain - Partitions, Accubonds, Sierra SPBTs

RL 19, RL 22, IMR 4350, IMR 4831, IMR 7828ssc

Thanks!

I have had good groups in several 300WSMs using 69.5grs IMR-4831 with WLR primers, not the WLRM, 165gr bullet seated 10-15 off the lands if the mag box allowed. One I recently worked up a load used 66.0grs of IMR-4831. Rick.

It looks to me like you have way more ideas for loads than you have time for right now.

Of the stuff you have on hand my first choice would be to try and develop a load for the 180 grain Nosler Partition using the IMR 4831. I own two 300 WSM rifles and both shoot great with 180 grain Partitions or 180 grain Sierra Pro Hunters using a near max load of IMR 4831.

When you have more time you may want to try some other loads, or not, maybe the IMR 4831 will be great.

I have loaded for six different rifles chambered in 300 WSM so far and all of them have shoot quite well with the following:

Winchester case
Fed 215M primer
Near Max load of H 4350
Barnes 168 grain TSX

This load has shown great accuracy and about 3100 fps in all the rifles I have tested.

Thanks for the help guys. Headed to the range today with three Barnes TSX loads, and two Nosler Partition loads. Three of the five shot under an inch...with only 4 shots of Winchester Power Points down the barrel and no break-in, I think this is going to be a great shooter!

Settling on:
180 Grain Barnes TSX
70.0 Grains of IMR 7828ssc
2.825" OAL
Winchester Cases
WLRM Primers
0.74" 3 Shot Group @ 100 yards

Looks like any of the 3 groups would get the job done. Good shooting.

...all the A-Bolts I've played w/ have been "shooters", any of those loads look to work...

...when you get some more time, you might want to try some RL-17, 3200+fps w/ the 165's, this is a 200yd. "cold bore" check w/ 165gr. Sierra HPBT GameKings, I "humped" the second shot, so I took a "third"...

...same target, 180gr. GrandSlams @ 3050...

Those loads will work just fine. I've taken a ton of elk and moose with the 180 grain TSX. My "go to" load for any 300WSM when first testing is buiklt with 180 grin HDY SP, WLRM primers and 65.0 grains of IMR 4350. It has shot well in thirty plus 300 WSMs I've worked with.
