Hi folks,

I'm looking for a good load for my .300wsm.
What bullet and Powder would you recomend for .
Primary use is hunting in the alps ( flat shooting, good wind conditions).

Kindest regards from the bavarian alps

Bud

Not sure if you need a heavy bullet, but in my Sako 75, I run the 180 grain AccuBond over 69 grains of RL 22 and a Federal 215m primer. The 69 grains of RL22 is book max so of course you would need to work up to that load. Good luck

Welcome to the forum, Bud. The 300 WSM is relatively easy to load. I have worked up loads in several score rifles chambered in this round. Through that work, I found that a 180 grain Hornady SP and IMR4831 consistently produced an accurate load. In fact, it became my accuracy load for testing a rifle. Having said that, I have never had a problem working up loads with 165 grain AccuBonds, 165 grain Sierra Game Kings or 180 grain Sciroccos. Powders that have worked exceptionally well in these loads include VN550 and VN560, RL19 and IMR4350. H380 is an excellent powder when coupled with the 165 grain Ballistic Tip.

Welcome to the forum Bud. I am with Mike, anything in the 4831, RL19, 4350 range seems to thrive with the 165-180 class bullet.

That is a pretty cool user name, I like it :) When I had a 300 WSM H 4831 sc with a 180 gr Partition was excellent in two different guns, I would try that powder with something sleek like an AccuBond or something similar. We worked up to Nosler's max load of 69.5 gr and a bit under 3000 fps from a 23" barrel.

Thank's @ all for the nice and friendly welcome wishes.

That's a good basic to produce a good new round. I have to hack this loads into quickload and try some groups at range.

Thank @ all and a stressfree week.

Regards

Bud

I had very good results with RL17 in two different .300WSMs.

I mostly shoot either the 150 or the 180gr in either AccuBond or Ballistic Tip flavors.

Bud, I've had very good success with IMR4831, IMR4350, and RL17 with 180 grain bullets. RL17 can really push the 180's along.

For the best performance in the wind, get your hands on some 7828ssc and launch the heavies. It makes for some fantastic heavy loads from 200 grains at 2900 fps up to 230s at 2700 fps in a 23" bbl..

I'm getting excellent groups and velocities with 64.5gr of 760.Winchester 760 and H-414 are the same powder, both are produced by Hodgdon Powder.I'm loading 64.5grs of Win.760 with a 165gr Hornady Interbond,COL is 2.850,velocity is 3125fps,1" groups @ 200yds.I'd give it a try in your rifle. To be quite honest with you, anything between 760 and Reloader-22 will work just fine in the 300WSM.Enjoy,it's a hammer.

This thread might be useful - I refer back to it all the time to re-read all the great advice these guys gave me:

I'm in the same boat but I have mostly been trying to find a load for 180 grain Accubonds. For the 180 ABs I've tried H4350, RL17, IMR7828, and Hybrid H-100V, and the most accurate has been 62gr RL 17 with WLR primers, but I have not pushed any of my loads too hot. I have some 165 and 180 TTSXs I will be trying next. My most accurate load altogether has been the lowest RL19 load listed in Nosler #6 for 150s and 150 grain hornady interbonds, with CCI250 primers, but I ran out of RL19 before I could try it in the 180s. I'll be getting some more RL19 soon so I'll be excited to try that. All in all I am really liking the 300 WSM caliber.

Bud,
Welcome to the forum, in my Sako 85 I have had good results with H4350 & 150 TTSX. I've Tried H4831 as well with fair results. The next load I'm going to try is with some Varget & 150 AB's. The lighter stuff with these premium bullets has been working well on the game I've taken and haven't seen a reason to step up
as of yet.

Best Regards,
Jager1

As you can see the 300WSM is an "easy" one to load for. Lot's of possibilities. I've found the same on my end. I've settled on 180 DeepCurl or PT for my hunting WSM. My son - his can shoot anything you put in it. Right now he is RL17 with 165 AB. Works great. I've found that the 200AB shoots OK but 180 and 165 is much better. I've settled on RL17 for most of my loading needs. Also just ordered a bunch of 180 PT so I'll using those for a couple of years worth of shooting. Can't go wrong with a PT.
