307 Winchester

The 308 Marlin Express was an attempt to try again with this concept I belive all it was is the 307 Win shortened .10" and loaded with the Flex Tip bullets. Maybe someone can correct me if I'm wrong on this. Don't know how well the Marlin cartridge is doing though.

I have seen a few 307's that I should not have let go. Man, 170's at 2600 would be fearful for a timber carrying rifle. Scotty

I passed on a few .307s because I was acquiring .356s and .375s. I won't make that mistake in the future should I run into a good example of the .307 in a classy Model 94.

That is a real steal! Pity it isn't being sold in Canada. A super price, for sure.

The price is about right. I'd let them keep the scope and offer them a little less. I'll see about looking into this.

Yeah, and I just picked up a VX7 1X6. Tell you what, Scotty. You buy that one down in the states, and I'll negotiate on this one on this side of the line. Then, we'll work up loads while we compare notes. I believe you need one of these.

I wished we could find 307's for that price down here. In that condition, most of them fetch closer to 700.. I would have to push the little 30-30 to my son then. Scotty

I can think of worse gifts for a son than a 30-30! That'd be pretty neat for him. Of course, he'd shortly lay claim to the .307 when he saw what a fine piece of work it was. Consequently, Fotis posted this: http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=260351242, which is far cheaper than what I have found them in Canada. You'd better jump on this, Scotty.

That is a nice rifle. I am not sure it is as nice as the Canadian one that was posted by Gerry though. I think the boy will have to "suffer" with shooting the 30-30 for awhile. Scotty

Reviving the post and just purchased (horse traded LOL) a clean 307 Winchester AE and I really like it. Ammo is not the best selection but I did see the load data with RL-17 WOW! In the research I have done, no one has tried RL-17, Big Game, or W-760? Thinking the powder capacity with a deep set 170 grain bullet does not allow that?

I don't know - but what a Zombie Thread! :) Brought back from the dead of 2011... :)

Always on the lookout for one. Should look nice next to my 356 Win.

Just sold two of them this year, Fotis. Great cartridge that went well with my three .356s.

My only snag with this is.....It seems like getting more than 43 grains of powder in the case is not possible? Do people just compress and crimp?

A Cartridge will hold up to 110% of case fill without difficulty. With a longer drop tube and/or gentle tapping on the case to settle the propellant, case fil can exceed this amount without any concern.
