308 165 partition loads

Hodgdon's Varget will move a 165 Partition at 2700+ fps from a 24" barreled .308 Win, with excellent accuracy.

Check Hodgdon's data if you'd like. I've been getting great results from the Varget/165 or 168 combo for over a decade. It's a winner on the target range or in the field.

Regards, Guy

I use BLC-2 on 165-168 grain bullet for my 308. Just be careful! It's very temperature sensitive.

I would start with Varget. Secondary choices would be IMR 4064, RL 15 and IMR 4350.

Thanks guys I have Varget and RL-15 to play with so I will try some with each and hit the range. I have good results with the 165 BT so far and have not tried Accubonds yet but will start with 165 partitions. I have gotten good accuracy with the Pro hunter Sierra in 150 grain as well using Varget.

I had pretty good luck with Varget and 150gr SST's and 165gr Interbonds. I think the 165gr load clocked right at 2750. I think 165gr load would have been tighter with something other than the Interbond. They don't seem to be as consistent as other Hornady bullets for me, that is. Varget seems to be made for the 308 though. Works pretty good in all bullet weights. I plan on loading 150gr Partitions for my wife, for her do it all load. Should be close to 2850-2900 and wreck any 4 legged animals day out to 300 yards. Scotty

H 380 is my go to powder for 308.
I've got three 308s.

One has an 18 inch barrel, one wears a 24 incher and the other is a VSSF with a 26 inch barrel.
All shoot well under MOA with 150/165/175/180 grain bullets out to three hundred yards.
I have been told it's temp sensitive but I have never seen it.

I've played with Varget but never achieved the results I was looking for.
Best part of it, H380 being a ball powder it meters FANTASTICLY through all three of my powder measures.

H380 is an old benchrest shooters trick for the .308 Win...

Very nice... I don't use it often anymore - but my oh my...

Mild charges work best for me, usually with the 168 gr bullets, but lighter bullets work really well with it too. If you know about H380 and the .308, you've got some more accuracy tricks up your sleeve!
